How can I clean my Aquadraw?

Any tips? It's one of those big mats and it's sticky in places and doesn't write properly. It also has mould in one corner from being put away wet....

Has anyone ever put theirs in the washing machine, or used any kind of cleaning product on it? If so, did it wreck it?

Thanks!

the only way I have managed is to put it in the washer on 30 with eco-balls

still not fab

you have to dry it for ages

marmadukescarlet · 03/03/2008 11:33

Waits in anticipation as Aquadraw has been out in the garden and got walked on by DCs....

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/03/2008 11:43

Thanks Capp.

I'm thinking I may need to really scrub it.

Anyone else?

My youngest got feltip on hers. I scrubbed it and then hanged it out to dry. However, it does take an awful long time to dry and to be honest hasn't been that great ever since.

Cappuccino · 03/03/2008 11:47

oh mine recovered it was just a bit grubby

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/03/2008 11:48

So it really does damage it, you think?

It's just occurred to me that maybe I should contact the makers....

I've just looked at the box - it says handwash only using sponge and gentle dabbing. Like that's going to get it clean

I had to scrub mine quite hard since it was feltip so it may have damaged it. No harm in sending aquadraw people a quick email. They are bound to have some solution. (Only wish I had thought of that when cleaning mine (was sleep deprived and not thinking properly )

schneebly · 03/03/2008 11:57

our dog peed on our when he was a little pup so I put it in the washing machine on a wool wash and let it dry outside for ages - it still worked pretty well afterwards.

egypt · 03/03/2008 13:01

machine washed mine and wont work well anymore. you have to go over your drawing about 3 times to get it to show. ruined

chipo · 03/03/2008 17:52

I have washed ours twice and works fine. i left it in the conservatory to dry and was pretty quick.

I am glad I found this thread - DS's Aquadraw has peanut butter blobs on it and I have been wondering how to get them out. Might try the scrubbing in the bath with baby shampoo

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 03/03/2008 17:58

I might have to buy one, so long as it is cheap, and not 'themed'

Any tips?

whyhankyou I will have a look on elc online maybe.

bubblagirl · 03/03/2008 18:04

e bay sell them all sorts themed and not themed

i got my thomas one from lovely lady on here and elc are doing the mini mats on sale at moment they are themed 4 mats that you colour over with water and produces a picture

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/03/2008 18:10

Baby shampoo may be worth a try - thanks Little Rabbit.

The Devil - I think they're great, firstly because unlike every other means of drawing or painting they can't make a mess that won't just dry off (hell, they can even suck the pens and it doesn't matter) and secondly, they're a bit like big chunky felt pens in that it doesn't take much co-ordination to make a nice clear mark, so great for toddlers.

They are fab, my niece still loves DS's as she is 8!

Kathy, if it doesnt come clean we may have a spare somewhere - DS was bought a thomas one but we had the colour one for xmas - it would just be the mat though and no pens.

Scattybird · 09/03/2008 17:02

Lay it out and scrub with a soft brush (not a scrubbing brush) what you can't get out may come out in the machine. 40 degrees. It works by the blue plastic showing through the white cotton bit like a wet t shirt comp . They are more durable than you might think.
