A month on food?

I say a month because my bill varies hugely from a 'stock up' week to a 'treaty bits' week

I am off to check my last few visa and see what the REAL damage is!!

OOh and include school lunch money etc

We've got one moving out in July. How much difference do you think that will make to the weekly drain?

What get,s me about teenagers and young adults, is the always want the best of everything. Eg "we should have all organic" "Only buy the "premier" meat" eyc etc. Do they think it grows on trees??

answer to OP

Too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would guess £500ish and that's with the oldest only being 11.

I do want to know where all the loo roll goes though, seems to be a roll a day and there is only me and dd4 home all day at the very most!

Well my dn, who is a 26 year old kipper, told my db, that when you buy a steak you shouldn't waste money on a cheap one, and buy the best you can................................................................................................. .................................................................................................... ..............................................................................................

except he doesn't buy it!

Too much. At least 900 euros.

Just checked and seem to be in line with most people - we are about £500 a month. However we live on an island with very little choice, and we never, ever eat out (don't get me started )

But now if we lived near a Waitrose...

We are 2 adults and 4 children aged between 2 & 9. And a whippet (nicknamed Prewash, so she doesn't cost much LOL). Breakfast cereal seems to be the thing we can never keep in the cupboard.

Not looking forward to the teenage pester power... as I remember doing it to my own mum. Mind you, I must have saved everyone a fortune when I went ethically vegetarian...

Visualisation exercise: One day I will have (and stick to) a menu planner like ggg's.

UniversallyChallenged · 03/03/2008 22:43

approx 450 a month for basic food

couple of meals out a month - an extra £70 probably

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 04/03/2008 17:41

tickle - i ALWAYS buy unbranded cereal and it is a great saving

literally half the price

PYBF - good tip, altho we don't really go in for the 'processed' ones - just porridge oats (I buy organic cos it really does taste nicer) and a danish version of mini shredded wheat, again oat based. It just seems to fly off the shelf (let alone the litres of milk to go with it!)

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 05/03/2008 20:22

ooh that must cost a fortune!! they do eat it by the sacklload!

wish you could still do 'bulk buy'
