Thick ice at back of fridge

So I've been noticing for a while now I have a large build up of ice (looks like a cloud but it is solid) at the top of my fridge that covers the height of nearly 2 shelves. It is also about an inch thick so wedges the shelves in. I have to remove it every 2-3 months and it's a job I absolutely hate.

Is there an easy fix for this or should I be replacing the fridge? For context I have a tall fridge and freezer that are separate. There is no freezer box in the fridge. There are no running issues as in the food is not going off but this constant ice build up is bugging me.

Following as I have this on the bottom of the fridge. It’s a smeg fridge/freezer and only a couple of years old.

I have this too. I think the kids turned up the temperature dial. I usually keep it on 1 or 2.

We had this. There should be a small hole on the back wall that you can see when you look in the fridge. That gets blocked up and it needs clearing and I believe there is supposed to be a bendy pipe cleaner type tool that comes with the fridge to assist in clearing it. We couldn't find the tool so my used a plastic drain clearer I think. It solved the issue for a year but needs doing again now.

I've had this at the back of the fridge. Is it integrated? I've always had this with integrated fridges. I was told it being integrated was the reason but I can't remember exactly why. There wasn't a solution either other than to make it free standing.

No its freestanding but drives me mad. If I left it the ice would just get thicker and over take the shelves I think.

I've checked that hole at the bottom. It doesn't appear blocked

My fridge has icy drips on the back wall and packaging gets wet. I rang the manufacturer twice. First time they told me to find that hole and check if it was blocked (not easy). The second time they said it was normal, that's how it's meant to be 🤷‍♀️

Might be blocked inside where you can't see. My son's fridge-freezer got totally iced up in the freezer part below until I cleared the drain hole in the fridge above.

Mine started doing this about a year before it packed up. It got steadily worse until I could actually keep frozen peas frozen at the back of the fridge.

I think it's a sign it's on its way out if the dial is on 3 or below and the drain hole isn't blocked.

I did wonder if it's worth just replacing. I've been holding out because of the expense, and because it matches the freezer I'd want to replace both (crying inside lol)

I have the same problem I just turn it up and down and it's also hanging on for dear life and I've put off replacing it too for the cost. I find it's worse when there is a lot of stuff in there and it's packed in.

Clear the little hole thingy.
Also, mine did this if food/ bottles were right up against the back wall. I bought some fridge basket things to store bottles/ jars etc in and make sure it is never pushed all the way back. Other food is always stored away from the back wall.
Solved it

Needanewadventure2021 · 06/09/2023 06:40

I wish I could say that is the problem but nothing is touching the back
