Heated Airer or dehumidifier

Looking ahead to another long winter of trying to dry clothing and bedding. I don’t have a tumble dryer and usually dry clothing on airers in a bedroom with a window open.
I’m undecided on whether to get a dehumidifier for the room or a heated Airer….please help, which is the best option.

I have both but have ended up using my heated airer in the shed. I still use my dehumidifier in the house its cheap to run and supposed to be cheaper to heat dry air. I would say a good quality dehumidifier would be best I have the meaco 20 litre one which is good but it won't work with a seperate timer. If you can find one which would work with a seperate timer you could maybe use it with cheaper night time electricity (if you have one of those tarifs). My heated airer created lots of moist air hence why it is banished to shed!

I find a dehumidifier great, didn’t have a tumble drier at all til about a year ago and used to dry towels/sheets etc inside with windows closed and never got any damp or mould problems. Have never tried a heated Airer tbf. But surely you’d still have the issue of damp air and needing windows open if you use one as the wet air has nowhere to go?

Have a dehumidifier and have not used the dryer since. Actually bought is as parts of the house are a bit cold/damp and it helped but standing my washing next to it is perfect.

Both! If you just use heated airer you may get damp/ condensation

Movinghouseatlast · 03/09/2023 09:54

I use both. The dehumidifier speeds up the drying process.

If you have a garden don’t forget clothes do dry outside in the cold to some extent. If it’s not chucking it down!

I have both but dehumidifier lives on landing and heated airer in an extension in the house we call the drying room. So not used for same purpose. I have a heat pump tumble dryer which is very economical to run

Dehumidifier. A heated airer will dry things more quickly but will put more water vapour into the air so you will still have to ventilate the home a lot or you may get condensation and damp problems.
A dehumidifier will actually remove the vapour from the air.

I used to use my tumble drier all through the winter but last winter decided that had to stop.

I dried all my washing outdoors. I chose dry days to wash, hung it out early and got it in by 3 when it was going damp again.

A few times I needed to just finish things off on an airer but never from wet.

There are only 2 of us but we have clean clothes every day, we both have a lot of running kit, I change the bed weekly and the towels about twice a week.

We live in the midlands.

Oh and I should say I am retired so can give when to wash and get it in/out a bit of thought. I appreciate for some that's not to easy.

I’ll start with a dehumidifier and see how we get on. Thanks everyone!

I use both together, and I love the way my bedroom feels after the dehumidifier has been on for a stint. Kind of light and fragrant.
