Does a washable somewhat waterproof table cloth exist?

I know this is an oxymoron but I need a new waterproof tablecloth but previous ones i have had stain so easily and wiping clean isnt doing enough. I submerged my current one in water and the plastic is now peeling off. Does a somewhat waterproof one exist that I can bung in the machine? My children are very messy so not at cotton level ones yet haha

I'd buy some thing you like and treat it with something like Fabsil gold, the stuff you waterproof tents and raincoats with. That would work.

Ah good idea, thanks.

La Redoute Anti Stain tablecloths

I find the darker colours are better, the white ones did eventually stain

We have flexible plastic topped sheet things with a thin layer of fluff/fabric on the back that we bought by the meter in the range several years ago to put on the floor when weaning and then used for protecting the table when painting pictures. We even chopped a bit off and put a hole in the middle as an apron. It's great stuff but quite bright and floral so not quite right for dinner with the in laws. Lasts for ever though Grin

We've got some la redoute ones. They're fabric but they're treated with something so that if a drink spills it sort of sits on top of the cloth rather than soaking into it. I wash them in the washing machine. I haven't checked whether they're tumble dryable but I don't - on the assumption it might knacker whatever waxy/plastic coating is making the magic happen.

This one

I hope no-one minds me contributing to this thread, Bowley & Jackson is my small business and my two very messy children (8 & 4) test our oilcloth everyday, I wash it at least once a week. I'm sure most of our customers don't need to wash it that often and simply wipe it with a cloth. It is designed to be washed at 40 and bolognaise, tomato ketchup, red wine, felt tip etc all wipe off it, we do a range of designs.

Thank you! I shall check your website. :)

I second Bowley and Jackson. I've got one on my kitchen table. Very good

I'm getting on really well with one from IKEA that seems to repel liquid but washes well at 30. It's red - I'll see if I can find a link - I literally just picked it up on a whim as I walked past !

I have a lovely one from Celina Digby. It's not oilcloth but it is waterproof and washable.

It was a lockdown purchase so it's been used pretty much every day for three years and still looks new.

I have two of these that I rotate in the wash. They are 2 years old now and look exactly the same as new. The non-slip is still non-slip. Every single stain has come out and my toddler is a beast!

I have an old Cath Kidston oilcloth one. It’s been in the washing machine stacks of times.
