Your best tips for cleaning an oven please!

I was trying to clean one of my oven trays last night and realised I don’t really know how to clean it properly. Hot water and washing up liquid just don’t seem to shift that baked on dark grease.

i know you can buy special oven cleaner but I imagine it’s probably pretty toxic…. any alternatives?

Dishwasher tablets. Wet it then scrub it on, leave for a bit then scrub with a scourer & wipe out. Or a baking soda/ vinegar mix, again left to work for a bit then scrubbed out & wiped down. That being said, if it's not been done for a while Oven Pride or Mr Muscle (in a spray can) are probably a good shout to then give you a 'clean slate' moving forward. MM is good because you can use it on the glass too & it does work. I tend to use a proper product once or twice a year then just elbow grease monthly in between, by keeping on top of it this way it never gets terrible.

Thank you. Maybe I will need to try the spray as the walls of the oven could do with a clean too, although they are not too bad.

My favourite method is getting a company in to give it a professional clean, but my second favourite is the scrubbing with a dishwasher tablet, which I found surprisingly effective!

Put all the trays in the bath with some fabric conditioner overnight. Sounds odd but they will come out like new.

Use an oven cleaning company. Effortless.

Another vote for a professional clean.

THis is my (at least 10 year) old oven after a clean.

I get a man in. I hate it.

Another here saying professional clean. We had ours done last week and it's like new. Admittedly it's only 3 years old and wasn't that mucky, but it's now like it was when it was delivered.

75 quid well spent. I can happily take the doors apart to clean the glass panels, but the oven I'm not doing, I do the hob every day and that's enough!!

Another one for dishwasher tablet
keep on top of it wipe it every time you use it
and I ooo the shelves in dishwasher in a regular basis

Are you 100% sure your oven doesn’t have a pyrolytic cleaning setting?

I had a brilliant oven cleaner. He was a 6'4" hairy biker guy with massive biceps. The oven had never sparkled more! (Sighs wistfully)

I had pretty good results with Astonish oven cleaner.

Yes, a specialist product but it’s a paste and doesn’t have that gross oven cleaner overwhelm, it just smells slightly of oranges. Needed to scrub of course but will definitely use it again.

For racks, I have used Oven Mate Just For Racks, but I think that is probably toxic chemical territory. It did work though!
