How much of each type of kids clothes do they need?

I'm having a periodic sort of my kids clothes, got rid of lots of things that really no longer fit, not worn etc and selling some bits on Vinted. I have got rid of lots but my daughters draws and wardrobe are still bulging.

I'd like ideally to be brave and just thin right down to what she needs. So for example she has about 20 thshirts, 15 pairs of leggings, over 10 jumpers. It all fits away but I don't think she can clearly see what she has.

What do your kids have? Most of her bits are bought of ebay and Vinted so it's not about saving money, it's about the room to fit it all in

How old? Is what you've listed in addition to school uniform, or is she younger?

I'd say you could probably halve what she has and it would be enough.

For casual cloths we have about 10 of each thing (tops, trousers, jumper) then a few party dresses. We also have 5 sets of school uniform. Usually 1 set is kept in the car for emergency and sometimes another in our day out bag.

Before school it was more like 20 of each, but no uniform. Though preschool DD was a messy kid and could spill food/drinks or fall in puddles and need charging 3-4 times a day.

She has just turned 9 and never seems to grow so we have just got rid of 6-7 that no longer fit.

This isn't includeding uniform. I try to keep uniform to 5-6 sets

Some of it depends on how often you do washing, whether you let it dry naturally or use a tumble dryer etc. If you normally wash clothing at least twice a week ( as opposed to towels and sheets etc) then I think that 7 of each kind of everyday clothes and a couple of smarter outfits/dresses is plenty in addition to school uniform. For summer clothes, you might need more if you are going on holiday and not intending to do a wash while away.
I think she might have fun choosing her 7 most favourite tee shirts, leggings etc.
If 7 seems too few items, then try 10?
I agree that it is better to have fewer items and be able to see them all properly to select what you want.

Considering we just had to go shopping for more teeshirts for the kids for our 10 day holiday, less than 10 short sleeved teeshirts, plus some long sleeve ones. 3 pairs shorts, plus 3 pairs trousers for DS1. 5 pairs shorts DS2. We have an agreement that I won't buy him trousers (other than for school) but on the couple of days a year I insist on trousers he will wear his brother's old ones. Couple of jumpers each.
Several sets of sports wear.

So I reckon for everyday clothes, my kids actually wear roughly 3 each of t-shirts, trousers/leggings, shorts, long-sleeved tops, jumpers.
There are a few more than that lurking in their drawers but they always go for the same few things anyway.
Then a couple of smarter options. And a few old things kept for scout camp etc.
That seems to be on the low end based on this thread but even managing that amount seems hard enough for them!

About 3 of everything except pants and socks. I’m counting long sleeve and short sleeve Ts separately. DD has a few more dresses than that but it’s always the same three or four get worn.

I had a thin out of one draw and she had 30! Tshirts. I have halfed them down. I'm thinking about aiming for ten of each type of item max as I also did her trousers and about ten does look a lot easy to see every item. She is quite messy and likes to rake through clothes and then leave most of it in a mess

Well done. That's a great reduction. The more the children have, the less they take care of their stuff, I find.

See how she gets on with what she has but you'll probably find that she can do with even less.

I have DS so it may be different. 3 jogging bottoms, 5 t-shirts, 2 hoodies, 1 coat but plenty of underwear. He is older now but it's always been similar amounts except at baby/toddler stage. He's never noticed and isn't bothered. I guess that helps too.

I have three older boys then her so the boys have had hand me downs and a few new items each, they tend to get shredded as they get passed down but dd tends to only ruin things with paint. I think I have buying in case she rips some leggings, but dispite being very rough and tumble she doesn't. I need to adjust my mindset

We've just thinned down but too much so dd is struggling to find enough clothes to last her week in a holiday camp this week - I've had to do a mid week wash. So I'd say 5 pairs of leggings and t shirts, 10 pairs of knickers, a pair of joggers and 4-5 jumpers.
