How long would you expect a £70 pure Iinen fitted sheet to last?

I treated myself to a set of pure linen bed sheets for a big Birthday 6 years ago. Holes appeared in the flat sheet by about 2 years of on/off use. I complained to the manufacturer who told me it was my fault for laundering in Persil (optical brighteners) not Ecover and gave me a voucher for a half price replacement. Eventually bought a replacement with voucher and a bottle of Ecover. Next, I confusingly found my feet in a hole in the duvet cover. Contacted the company who offered 30% discount on replacement. Nah, that's throwing good money after bad. Now I find the second sheet is holey. So that's my adventure in linen over, £400 and 6 years later. I expected they would outlive me, like the striped flanelette sheets my Nana bought in the 1950s that still have for emergencies. Maybe I'll switch to them. The bottle of Ecover has lasted longer 🤣

Nothing to add re the sheets but I was in Bruges ( fabulous) and there is a lovely linen shop there called Home Linen with absolutely beautiful products.

I hope to return there soon.

Decent linen should last a lifetime my DM has her grandmother’s- just wearing out now and they must be getting for 100 years old.

I like linen duvet covers, but I have cotton fitted sheets. My duvet covers are 10 years old, one was from IKEA and cost £70 including pillowcases. The second was Hobbs that I bought new on eBay for £50. I wash them on 60 degrees in Persia bio and they both look like new. Some of this expensive stuff is just a rip off. When I need to replace mine I will buy some linen material and make them myself.

I have a cotton sheet that my mum bought in about 1972. It's been in constant use since and is still going strong. I also have old linen bed sheets bought by my great-grandmother in the 1930s! What have they done to fabric quality in the interim?!

I've never had any sheets in holes tbh apart from M&S deep, sheet but seam split

I have Dorma sheets that have lasted well over a decade. Mind you I don't wash my sheets more than once a week and have three sets

Thanks everyone for interesting replies.
I looked back on my emails and the company gave me a voucher to replace as a goodwill gesture after the first sheet wore through and told me to use Ecover. The second has lasted 2 years of on/off with fortnightly wash - that's about 365 nights and 26 washes. And even the duvet cover wore and ripped after 3/4 years on/off.
