Help with DIRTY FLOOR! What am I doing wrong?

So...

Weekly I sweep the floor and then go over with a dust cloth on the end of a mop thing and then I sometimes use wet wipes and then I mop with a floor cleaner.

AND MY FEET ARE STILL FILTHY FROM WALKING ON IT!

Shock

This is such a class thing. You're mopping once or twice a day? No shoes indoors?!

Historically flag floors were cleaned twice a day. It would be a midden otherwise.
No outdoor shoes because otherwise the dirt just travels through the rest of the house.
It’s not a class thing, it’s a practical thing.

Hoover everyday (sometimes twice) and mop every other day (2 bucket method using boiling water and a drop of fairy liquid with a dash of Zoflora), then buff on hands and knees using microfibre cloths.
No shoes inside

😂

The OP asked for advice on how to keep floors clean. I shared what I do. No need to mock me

I have tiles. We have a cleaner once a fortnight who’ll mop, but we hoover and take care of spills everyday (at least once). We have a no shoes policy.

Have you thought about something like a BissellCrosswave that scrubs floors?

Gemstonebeach · 22/07/2023 01:45

I have to sweep daily in my kitchen and I wipe up any spills but I only mop it properly once a week and I don’t get dirty feet.

Hi all! Thanks for your replies! So I sweep then dust then mop once a week. I guess I'll sweep daily then - that's fine!

It's a wooden floor that runs through the whole flat. Then the kitchen and bathroom is tiled. The flat gets SO dusty too. I think it's worse from drying out clothes and having the windows open.

We don't have pets but we have a child. I'm quite strict with outdoor shoes inside!

Any pets? I rinse the mop out under a running tap before I put it back in the bucket of floor cleaner . I have a mix of solid wood and engineered wood. I use method for a quick clean and some sort of wood floor cleaner that’s diluted in the bucket once a week. Dry dust with an anti- static mop first .
I have dogs . Do my best to clean their paws, no outdoor shoes. Still a bugger to keep clean.

We have engineered wood!

I'll have a look!

This has been very helpful! I'll sweep and mop daily! When I do it once a week, I move every piece of furniture in the house + do the skirting boards etc. so it is very thorough. So perhaps I'll do the thorough once a week and the light sweep daily! Because I don't really have an hour every day spare to work on my floor. Daily will be good for my step count too!
