Omg, the bins full, it doesn’t get emptied for another week (2weekly rota), I recycle cardboard and bottles and tins and glass but we still struggle.

they’re everywhere, on the outside of the bin , loads inside, there was nothing yesterday.

is there anything I can do to stop it from at least getting worse until next week (apart from setting fire to the bin 😂)

Can't help with maggots, as we have never had them. But I can help you prevent this. Do you have a freezer? Make space for a big Tupperware box in there. Line the box with biodegradable food waste bags. Every day put all the food waste in the box. On bin day, take out the frozen block, it will come out easily if you run it under the hot tap for a few seconds. Put it in the bin. I defy any fly to lay an egg in a frozen block. We occasionally do this, during a hot spell, or if I know we will be away when bin collection is due.

Honestly....I would just leave it.

They'll turn into flies and bugger off. Sure, they may lay more eggs which become more maggots but those still left will be emptied out when the bin gets emptied.

Then, when empty, do everything suggested above.

IMO life is too short to spend time wading through maggot infested rubbish.

This.

I leave the lid ajar so they can turn onto flies and get eaten by bigger animals.

Not sure why anyone would want to boil one to death with bleach and boiling water.

Bit sadistic.

Revolting things. Our cat often doesn't finish his food so we empty his bowl in the garden each day for the birds, just in case there are any fly eggs on there

Round here we have caddies for food waste. The contents are collected weekly and go to produce gas. Biodegradable liners are OK for the week though both hose and kerbside caddies need an occasional was to keep them wholesome.

Before that food waste went in the kitchen bin which was lined. When bin was full, or before if it smelled - wrappings from fish usually responsible - the liner was knotted closed and put in the bin.

Never had maggots unless they lurked unseen in a sealed bag.

Don't use bleach - if the bin men get splashed in the face with that, it would be horrible.

Spray some fly spray into the bin and close the lid. Leave the ones on the outside.
