... I just seem to have created more mess. Every room is a shambles. I went to clean DD room and got distracted at the idea of rearranging her furniture.

My living room - I have pulled everything out from the drawers and thrown it on the floor, so I have massive rubbish piles all over the place.

My kitchen - went to clean and got distracted by the idea of cooking eggs (on boil now)

DD room - half done, but still a mess

Bathroom - started, the toilet is clean, but nowt else. Oh I have managed to hoover the bath mat.

My room - lets not go there.

Argh. Was supposed to be ironing too.

please can somebody give me a kick up the bum motivating speech

I keep consoling myself that I also have tomorrow off work and if it is all done and clean, I can mooch on my laptop and watch films and de-stress.

Am thinking of doing bathroom first. It's small

Sorry I know it isn't funny but I am really lol here as this is the sort of thing I do all the time. I do it because I have so little time without ds that when I do secide to have a 'day to sort it all out' I try and do everything. I usually start tidying a room and then decide to 'sort out the' drawers/cupboards' or 'rearrange the furniture' etc and the mess just gets worse.

My only advice would be to so 'one room at a time'. Get one room done then move to the next one. If when it is nearly time to collect your dd some of your room,s still look like bomb sites (this always happens to me). I run around those rooms and do a really quick tidy (Chucking things back in cupoards etc.)

pedilia · 25/02/2008 12:20

I do that and then get peed off that I even started in the first place.

Pick one room, finish it then move on, with a cuppa and 10 minutes on MN as a reward

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 25/02/2008 12:28

am going to have a sandwich and the "finish" the bathroom (doesn't take long) dd room (shouldn't be too long) then move to the kitchen / living room. My room might have to wait til tonight as I really do want to tackle the ironing

Actually, no, cant be arsed with ironing but wanted to sound like I was making an effort!

Hello elf. I did the same thing today but have ended up sitting on mn and haven't even plugged in the hoover yet

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 25/02/2008 12:36

we'll make a pact - I'm on til I finish my sandwich so we'll leave at the same time and eport back with regular intervals

WELL WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON HERE THEN HMMNNN????!!!

Kewcumber · 25/02/2008 12:39

but one room at a time is soooo dull.

Elf - I'm with you - a fully opaid up member of the "I'm so shit at tidying and cleaning that I should be locked up for even thinking of it"

My tip.. put everything in a big pile in the garden and set fire to it.

right then, I have finished my sandwich, and I am about to head upstairs.
I'll be back in five minutes an hour or so to report skiving progress

okay, daughters room is finished, as is the bathroom.

Working on living room (where the floor is covered with things to go in the bin, you cant tell the room is tidier but the drawers are at least clean!) and the kitchen.

I hate cleaning.

When you get a moment later tonight have a look at Freecycle (it's a group on Yahoo). You'll be able to get rid of all your old junk that you don't need anymore resulting in a tidier house and less hassle to clean. I've got rid of heaps of stuff you'd be surprised at the stuff that other people want to take off your hands AND it helps keep stuff out of landfill sites.

Good luck with the cleaning .

have just cleared out the cupboard where I thought there were only the most recent cards we have received, only to find it has everything for the last three years - my birthday cards, DH's cards, the leaving cards I got from work for maternity leave, the billion congratulation cards when she arrived... ahhhh.
Just stuck them in my/DD's memory boxes - not before having a good read

Status of VF house

Bathroom clean and sparkly
Floors scrubbed/hoovered
Bedding all changed
Washing done and hung on clothes horse
Fridge dejunked (god that was awful)
Kitchen gleaming
DH's wardrobe cleared out and a binbag of clothes/shoes ready for charity bin

Ironing pile put off for another night

Blimey that feels great!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 26/02/2008 08:38

VF you put me to shame

As at yesterday 6:00 the kitchen was clean, the living room was clean, the bathroom was clean, dd's bedroom was clean, just my room and the irnoning to do.

I'd planned to iron that night, but ended up falling asleep with dd at 8:00, woke up at 11:00 by DH telling me to get ready properly for bed, and then woke up at 7:00 this morning!

So, my plan for today is to:

Start at 9:00 in clearing the pots from last night that DH didn't wash, straighten the living room, tidy my room and iron DD's clothes. Hopefully by 12:00 I'll be ready to chill out!!

Just what I do!

I have cleaned out both boys rooms today and it took ages. I have put thousands of jigsaw pieces back in their boards, looked for and not found every missing DVD or case, moved things around in Ds2's room, done 4 wash loads and played with the cat. Most important that last job.

I hope you don't use the childminder who created that thread criticising parents who use her services when they're not actually at work...
