Robot vacuum and pet hair? Is it worth it?

Just that really? We've a really good vacuum but it feels like a constant job and our little one has just started crawling so I'm a bit paranoid about the pet hair. Anyone else with pets got one and what's your experience been like? Any specific recommendations?

I’ve got one and generally it’s pretty good. It doesn’t work on my sofa though so I use a handheld hoover for that.

Don’t bother. I bought a Eufy robot vacuum after recommendation on here. It was useless.

View it as a sweeping brush not a hoover.. it's picks up the smaller bits in the corners. But not a replacement for a proper hoover.

Absolutely, mine goes on 2-3 times a day and it’s amazing how much dust etc it collects each time. A dog, long haired cat and 3 girls with long hair.

We have an iRobot, it's life changing. We have 3 cats and a dog and it was so hard to keep on top of all the fur, constant tumbleweeds of hair used to blow everywhere. It makes a map of the floor to make sure it covers all areas. We used to have a cheaper one that seemed to just go on random directions; that wasn't nearly as good.

I think it depends massively on what type of floors you have.

I have a eufy, four years later and it's still going strong. I have all hardwood floors with various rugs, three cats, and I'll never be without a robot vac again. I used to drag my hoover out every day to deal with the cat hair. I fully admit that I have a "thing" about the cleanliness of my floors, so having cat hair wisping about was a no go for me. Thanks to my eufy, I only do a "real" hoover twice a week.

However, if you have carpeting, I don't think a robot vac will cut it. I don't think they have enough power to deal with carpeting.

We also have Eufy. Hardwood floors. Cats. It’s great. Hoovers under sofa and under bed also which is handy.

I had a Lefant which was really good. It had a roller and picked up pet and human hair really well. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a replacement battery so I bought an Eufy. It's not great compared to my old one. I wouldn't recommend.

iRobot i7. Very good with dog hair on hard floors and carpet / rugs.

SweetAndSourChick3n · 10/07/2023 09:01

We have a Eufy and it's great, does a great job with one fluffy dog and 2 cats shedding fur everywhere.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 04/04/2024 17:31

We've got neatos, and had them on low pile carpet, rugs, and hardwood. Love them.

If you get one, make sure it detects 'soft matter'. In the event that your pet has an accident, you don't want it spread all over the house.

this is exactly how I see it. If you walk in socks after using ours the floor still doesn’t feel clean, not the way it would after using our hoover (Hetty)

GoodOldEmmaNess · 04/04/2024 17:51

Dog hair is exactly the reason I have mine, and it is a brilliant solution. Previously I would hoover max twice a week, and of course within a day or so of hoovering there was quite a bit of white dog hair everywhere. Now, I can run my little robovac every day with very little effort and keep that 'just hoovered' look.

From time to time i do a manual hoover too, but in general i find the robot job good enough.

RiverFlowers · 04/04/2024 17:54

I wouldn't bother - we had a Eufy with supposedly powerful suction and it just doesn't compare to a proper vacuum cleaner - it was more of a sweeper and in the end we sent it back as it wasn't worth the nearly £300 we paid for it

GoodOldEmmaNess · 04/04/2024 18:36

Mine is a Eufy too - eufy robovac 15c max. But I got it in a black friday amazon offer for only about £150. I'd say it sucks as well as our manual hoovers have (Shark currently but previously a Dyson).
It is a little bit frustrating sometimes: You have to make sure you remove all the potential traps for it or you get sad little bleats from it on your phone (which, annoyingly, I always think are WhatsApp messages); and there are a few replacements that you need to make from time to time (brush, filter, brush cover). But overall I'm really pleased with how well it works.
