How do you get the smell of sweat out of tops?

I have a number of tops - ranging from reasonably tight fitting cotton long sleeved vests to knits. And many of them seem to really smell of sweat (delightful i know).

Even if they've just come out of the wash and I've just got out of the shower and have used deoderant, within an hour they're stinking again.

Should I just bin them or is there some way to get rid of the smell that seems to be ingrained in the fabric?

thanks

I have a couple of tops like this and i think its just because they're a few years old They washed and smelled fine for a long time so thats all i can assume it is

Does white vinegar work ? I read somewhere about adding it into your wash. Isuffer the same, I have a few tops that stink, some are new too. I was underarms every day without fail as I feel yucky under my armpits when I get up, but by the afternoon I'm sweaty again and the pits of my tops smell. I use a variety of different deodarants I cant seem to control it

do you usually use non-bio liquid?

A soak in a bio liquid would break down the proteins.

Thanks for the tips - will try vinegar - haven't before and will try bio soak. It just seems such a waste to bin these tops when they're fine and still newish - but I can't stand wearing them.

I use biological powder. I don't feel i sweat much so i don't think its to do with that entirely, what about you Josh? I'm gatecrashing your thread!

I honestly don't know. I'm don't sweat excessively but I guess I must for the shirts to smell like they do! No idea. Maybe it's the fabric type or something - although it has happened with plain cotton, woolen knits and mixed blends so who knows.
