Amazon subscribe and save

Does anyone here use Amazon ‘subscribe and save’? I have tried to set it up but I’m confused…

When I search for an item it brings up mainly jumbo packs and refill packages. I thought the idea was to order one (normal sized) packs on a frequent and ongoing basis. I don’t need ten bottles of washing up liquid all at the same time.

Also… at this stage it doesn’t appear to be cheaper than deals you can almost always find in a supermarket.

Any ideas on where I’m going wrong? Thank you!!

We only use it for cat food, buying it in bulk once a month as it generally works out cheaper than buying a pack a week in the supermarket, but I do keep a careful eye on the price as it sometimes goes up on Amazon and special offer in the supermarket. When that happens I cancel it and stock up for a few weeks from the supermarket. So I'd say it was hit and miss. I also find it hard to predict exactly how fast we'll use things, I did have to cancel it once last year because we had so much we could miss a month. To be honest, like any subscription, its just another way to get you spending more than you intended.

I use it, no I agree it's mostly multipacks/bulk. Suits me because I don't live near any shops and I have garage storage. I don't think you're going wrong at all.

SquashPenguin · 26/06/2023 07:45

I use it for all my laundry/ cleaning/ washing up up stuff/ hair dye/ deodorant/ vitamins. It’s mostly multipack but you can change how often you get it delivered. For example I get two bottles of washing up liquid delivered every 2 months. Cheaper than the shops and I don’t have to remember to buy any.

RaininSummer · 26/06/2023 07:51

I use it. An average month will have ecover laundry stuff, soap, toothpaste (single packs)and less often, huge pack of loo rolls, sack if dog food, cosmetic and toiletry stuff.

Quveas · 26/06/2023 07:59

Just to add, you get a reminder when the next order is due, so you can cancel or change it before it is dispatched.

MossCow · 26/06/2023 08:03

It's only very slightly cheaper I think. I think you can do it on anything.I bought 12m of wonderweb yesterday and was still offered subscribe and save. When you go to put something in your basket it offers you two prices.

It is good as you can skip a delivery if you need to and you can adjust the frequency.

DazzleBlind · 26/06/2023 08:08

I don't like the way that the price often increases. I assumed that when I set up a subscribe and save that the price would remain the same for future deliveries.

YellowDots · 26/06/2023 08:17

It is just the price of the item on the day, the same price as it would be if you were buying it on that day. It couldn't stay the same. Especially not at the moment when everything is going up,so much.

It could be less also,

motherofawhirlwind · 26/06/2023 08:19

Definitely good for large/heavy items like loo roll, washing powder, crates of cat food but watch the prices. The price on the monthly reminder email can change before dispatch so I double check again on dispatch day and cancel any that have gone higher.

cushioncovers · 26/06/2023 08:34

I use it for bulk items and items I haven't got time to go to the shops for such as a catnip toy my cats love which I'm not going to make a special trip to the pet store for as the store is 10 miles away. It is designed for bulk buying I think rather than just shopping in general. Items go up and down in price and Amazon will send you an email to show you any price changes. I use it a lot

Thanks everyone for sharing your responses- really helpful. I don’t think it’s for me after all. worth looking into it though.

I use it for cat food like everyone else! Also loo rolls and kitchen rolls, shampoo, toothpaste etc. but I always cancel if the price is getting too high and find a substitute.

RSintes · 26/06/2023 21:05

I found it super helpful for all the things that run out just when you least need them like toothpaste, bin bags, cat food etc. you can tweak you upcoming orders so that you don't get stuff that you have plenty of already. Really helpful for us as I'm chaotic at shopping otherwise.

Summerishereagain · 26/06/2023 21:07

I don’t think its much cheaper. I use it for convenience.
