How to clean laminate flooring

Help! We’ve just moved into a house which has beautiful wood flooring - I assume laminate - throughout the downstairs. I don’t know if it’s sealed, where it’s from and sadly I can’t ask the vendors as it was a probate sale so the person who installed it has died.

ive never had this before - how do I clean it and keep it looking nice? I’ve washed it with a mop and bucket but then read that this can seriously damage it. I’ve tried a flash ‘speed mop’ thing but really don’t want to be tied into using disposable wipes - so bad for the environment!

ive seen that ‘method’ floor cleaner - can I use that with a micro fibre cloth? What do people use?!?

I use a mop but I use boiling water in the mop bucket so it evaporates a bit (well, in my imagination!), I wring the mop out really really well and I have an old bath sheet that I shuffle over the floor with using my feet as I go along so that no wet it sitting on it, this also prevents it streaking.

7 years and it still looks new.

Don’t use a steam mop whatever you do. I know someone who did & their floor lifted in places.

A Bona mop and spray specific to the type of flooring.

You need to check if it's actually wood, as in parquet or laminate.

Wood is expensive and needs TLC and gentle soapy cleaning. Laminate is cheap and cheerful and you can use any old detergent.

I'd love a wooden floor. 😍

I sweep the floor first and then use the vileda spray mop which has a washable sponge/mop head thing. You can buy replacements when it starts looking particularly grubby.

Exactly this! Flash liquid in hot water and shuffling on a towel 🤣

We've had laminate (Pergo) since we moved in c1998. It was replaced shortly after due to being badly laid - ie not in accordance with instructions - but that's by the by.

Mop it with hot water after spraying with a proprietary laminate cleaner. Don't let the water slop but rather make sure the mop can be and is fully wrung out.

An old towel or a microfibre cloth for any excess water is a good shout too.
