Does anyone have any experience with Robot Vacuum cleaners? Are they actually any good? Any recommendations?

I've got a roborock s5 named Betsy. She is set as we leave for school run and can do whichever room you want doing. I find her hoovering is good but you do have to make sure the floor is clear of kids toys and clutter.

Not convinced on her ability to mop, to be honest but she does enough to keep the floor looking respectable so I can do a full proper clean once a week.

I'm tempted for one upstairs as well but not sure where I would keep it.

You can set up multi maps. We have a townhouse and we just move her upstairs and restore the map for that floor x

Thank you for this. I will take a quick look and see if that could help!

How clear do your floors need to be? Thinking about getting one but we are fairly cluttered - and have small kids who leave toys around. Kitchen would be fine I suppose but not sure it's worth getting one for just one room!

I've just stayed a thread as I thought this was just about the hoover ones, but I see some of you have the mop one. I'd love something for a quick once over. I don't mind doing a thorough clean now and then if this would keep on top of it.

Mines mops. Well it sprays water and then drags around a microfibre cloth. With my one you change the dust tank for a water tank with a cloth. It was about £20. It doesn’t suck up any water so leaves the floor a bit wet. I leave it to mop kitchen, utility and conservatory when I go out and then it dries nicely for coming back. I use method spray and mop , squirt directly on the floor.

I’ve found it similar to using a steam mop where any proper grime is pushed to the edges but it’s easy enough to run a damp cloth round the bottom of the room.

Where did you get yours from?

We have one and it works quite well, although if you have cats/dogs like ours, it may not go that well. The cat sits on it when it’s moving which freaks the dogs out so they start barking. 😅

My one is a bagotte. Bought on amazon for about £120. They do fancy versions for £600+ but the floor isn’t 5 times as clean! For mopping search replacement water tank it’s £27.99 and comes with microfibre pad.

A cautionary tale: A friend of mine has a Robot Vacuum they also have a dog. They programmed their Robot Vacuum to automatically start up and hoover up early in the morning before they are up. Unfortunately during the night their dog had a terrible dose of diarrhoea, so they woke to find that their robot vacuum had distributed runny poop all over several rooms.

Yes I have an Evocacs Deebot vacuum / mop. It has changed my life tbh, it mops daily, we are a childless/ petless household that is tidy and clean but you would not believe how dirty the cleaning cloths are! I bought a tons of copy ones off Amazon so now have 20 on rotation that just go in the washing machine. Even has a video camera and does house surveillance while we're away which I watch via an app on my phone. Can make it clean via the app and even telephone it to speak through it to other people at home. 😂

We have had a couple of Robot Vacuums, our current one is a Coredy (known by us as Broomhilda :-) it has a container on the base unit for several weeks worth of dust and It has a laser to precisely map your house and can be told where not to go. Mostly it is well-behaved, but has in the past decided to eat and become tangled up with the nest of cables under my computer. Mostly it trundles around merrily and makes a good job of hoovering up, then when finished it returns to its base unit and automatically empties that day's dust. Our big problem with it is that it has a "drop sensor" intended to prevent it committing suicide by driving off stairs. Unfortunately we have several black rugs that it misinterprets as a drop, so we have to lift those as it won't cross them. Having said that, it does make a good job of cleaning our acres of laminate. It is certainly superior to our last one that just wandered around randomly like a drunken teenager with absolutely no idea where it was. In my opinion it is futile to get one with a mopping function as they just drag a bit of damp microfiber cloth around a bit. Mapping ones are certainly more expensive, but I considered that forking out £300 odd was probably worth it.
