Soaking in bicarb can help remove smells, then put them in a regular wash

MMMarmite · 14/06/2023 22:44

Have you tried just putting them through another wash cycle?

Cuteepie · 14/06/2023 22:46

Soda crystal wash - repeat until they’re okay.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 14/06/2023 22:48

Try it. Although I would be tempted to dry them outside first, whilst running your machine on a hot wash but empty., to clean it. Then rewash the dry painting clothes on a long, hot wash and back outside to dry in the hot sun.

I’ve never used the dettol laundry stuff. But it cannot harm to do so.

Thanks all will try washing then with dettol first then hang and dry then put machine on hot wash and if clothes still smell soaking them in bicarb
if that fails will have to just find some other painting clothes . And i thought I was so organised this yeat

Wrong time of year really, but when DC had left a couple of pairs of damp socks in a school bag for a week, I left them outside on the line in the rain for a few days which mostly got rid of the smell before I washed them.

Wash them again and hang on the line outside to dry. You might need to do it a few times though, that musty smell is very persistent.

AdoraBell · 15/06/2023 00:10

Should be okay after a couple of washes and dry in sunlight.

Try using a cupful of hydrogen peroxide added to your washing powder. It is used as a whitener- brightener- stain remover in place of chlorox for colored clothes. Often has a name with ' oxy- oxygen ' in the title. It should get the odors out.
I'm a forgetful painter too!

I had this years back with a forgotten bag of lifesaving lessons swimming clothes!
Mildewed and mouldy as well as stinky.
You have got just the weather for it!
Rewash at least once as hot as poss and then peg out in sun for a week or 2. They’ll be fine.
