Freezer door left open

Looking for food safety and flavour/quality advice!

I'd been out all day and when I got home I saw the freezer door ajar. It was one of these hot sunny days and it must have been like that for 12 hours. I'm wondering if the food is all ruined. How warm will the freezer contents have got? The was a fair bit of ice built up inside.

There's no meat in there so this isn't really about the expense, it's just that I can't bear the thought of wasting all the food.

There are part cooked bread rolls, maybe ok? Lots of frozen fruit for smoothies. Unopened ground coffee which I presume will be absolutely fine.

Then there's oven chips, Yorkshire puddings, and veggie nuggets as well as a couple of pizzas. Frozen spinach and some prepared meals from M&S. Sliced bread and lastly expensive ice-cream.

The ice-cream will have to go because it's probably crystallised. Can any of the remainder be kept? I'm thinking in terms of quality and flavour effects as much as safety to eat.

I bought compostable bags today so I'm prepared to separate the food and packaging and bin the lot but I dread the thought of that

As long as it is still cold, it's safe to refreeze. The quality might be a bit affected but the only way to establish that is to refreeze and then defrost.

I'd refreeze the ice cream and see how it is before binning it.

I would chuck the ice cream because it's supposed to be a magnet for bacteria if frozen and melted and refrozen surprisingly

If you google there are many horror stories - listeria is the issue with ice cream

This is great info, thanks. The ice-cream goes, along with any other dairy. I think I'll hold on to the fruit which is intended for blending anyway so minor texture deterioration won't matter. The half cooked bread should be fine I think but not the regular sliced bread. I'll dump any ultra processed foods because I shouldn't be buying them in the first place! I don't think they decompose properly either way.
And I'll use the opportunity to give the freezer a good cleaning

Definitely throw ice cream. Most fruit and veg will refreeze but may be more crystal covered. Ready meals check if any defrosting and look at packet for directions.
