Can someone recommend a non toxic kitchen surfaces cleaner?

I've been using zoflora because it's cheap but not happy with how toxic it is. What could I use that's not too expensive but is effective and more natural? Any ideas?

Vinegar mixed with some washing up liquid and a bit of water.

Radi0liverpool · 12/06/2023 07:40

Thanks. Does that not smell a bit gross? I was hoping for something that smells nice too!

Method

Depends on what you mean by toxic.
Essential oils are toxic.
Bleach is toxic.
Vinegar is toxic.
Soap is toxic.
Soda crystals are toxic.
Artificial perfumes are toxic.
Natural perfumes are toxic.

What's your actual concern?

AssertiveGertrude · 12/06/2023 07:52

I would just go with fairy liquid and hot water and maybe add a drop of essential oil eg lemon

Teddypops · 12/06/2023 07:52

Method stuff is lovely.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 12/06/2023 07:56

How are you measuring effective? Is it sterilising a counter top or getting rid of splashes around the hob? A clean cloth, hot water with a dash of washing up liquid is probably the cheapest most effective way?

christiesternerz · 12/06/2023 08:06

Vinegar is an excellent natural cleaner that can effectively kill bacteria, remove odors, and disinfect surfaces. Mix equal parts of distilled white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and use it to clean various surfaces in your home. You can also add a few drops of essential oil to help mask the vinegar smell.

MissBattleaxe · 12/06/2023 08:21

I agree with @NowZeusHasLainWithLeda Unless you're licking it afterwards. most cleaning stuff is going to be toxic but is fine for its purpose.

Radi0liverpool · 12/06/2023 08:22

Okay, it's DH who doesn't like the zoflora. The chemicals.
If I just use hot water, everything is smeary. I just want something so the taps shine and surfaces clean and not smeary. Thanks for the ideas!

I'll try this, perhaps with the vinegar

And essential oil

I do like method but it's not cheap

Also tried Purdu and Figg which I love! But refills are expensive

I love method.

Handsnotwands · 12/06/2023 08:25

i like smol. You get a refillable bottle and then little tablets that dissolve. It’s v effective

theemmadilemma · 12/06/2023 08:27

The vinegar won't smell after a min or two, and will cut through greese. You can add a few drops of essential all.

Radi0liverpool · 12/06/2023 08:28

Just had a look at smol! Looks good

You do know that you're not actually cleaning with disinfectant though?

LastResortisthis · 12/06/2023 08:33

In France last year the cleaning products in the place we were staying were vinegar based and very effective. They seem more switched on in France.

I've no idea what I'm doing?! 🤣

I'm not a natural at this and I bumble along buying stuff people suggest. Zoflora was cheap and smelled nice but now he says it smells toxic.

Another vote for BioD - whole range is really good.

No, it smells of vinegar for about 2 minutes then nothing, and as PP says it cuts through grease.

I keep meaning to try a couple of drops of essential oils as an experiment.

FletchingStraight · 12/06/2023 17:15

I agree Zoflora is nasty stuff
Careful which surfaces you use vinegar on - bad for granite, wooden floors or wood worktops.
It's excellent for glass, sinks & taps, tiles, hobs & the like especially using a micro fibre cloth.
Bicarbonate of soda mixed with washing up liquid &/or vinegar also has many uses for cleaning in both kitchens & bathrooms too. Loads of 'recipes' on Google.
