How long would you expect a vacuum cleaner to last....

my DC07 is 6 years old and the brush has stopped rotating.

(yes I have cut off all my hair that was tangled around the brush and it hasn't made any difference - it still won't go)

Is this how long a vacuum should last? New one or repair? Ladies what do you think?

New!

brendar75 · 21/02/2008 12:47

Is there still suction in the pipe? You can buy replacement brush heads.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 21/02/2008 12:48

oops I hit post too soon.

I would say thats a long time and you might pay for repair only to find another thing goes wrong. There are some really good deals on mieles at the moment and they are fab.

peanutbear · 21/02/2008 12:49

If one of mine lasted that long I would be really happy
if its still going strong I would try to get parts for it

brendar75 · 21/02/2008 12:50

Oops - me too! Just looked at the website - the DC07 is an upright, isn't it? In which case, you can't just buy a new brush head as you can with the cylinder types. Go mad and get a new one!

CoffeeMad · 21/02/2008 12:51

Yes it is still sucking, but the brush won't move.

Right, so maybe I should forget thinking about repairing it.

CoffeeMad. Please read my thread here! You really don't need to shell out on a new one!

LilRedWG · 21/02/2008 12:57

The phone number should be somewhere on your Dyson. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll have a look at mone.

crokky · 21/02/2008 13:09

Is a DC07 a dyson? My dyson had loads of faults and after 7 yrs we decided enough was enough, it was a crap vacuum and we bought a miele. The miele was about £130 and it is so much better that the [not very] old dyson. i wouldn't hesitate to replace if i were you, it does feel bad and not very green etc, but the difference having a vacuum that is reliable and actually works is worth it imho!

CoffeeMad · 21/02/2008 13:15

Thanks LilRedWG have just rung Dyson they quote £65 for service all in - have also bookmarked a miele vacuum from JL so its up to DH when he gets home.

Thanks all for taking time to reply!

has the belt on the head broken?

you can buy these and fit yourself quite easily.

My DC01 is still going

brendar75 · 21/02/2008 14:46

I remember my mum being most annoyed that her Hoover gave up the ghost after only 23 years

biffandchip · 22/02/2008 16:23

My Henry Hoover is 14yrs old and still going strong - seen me through 3 house renovations too.

JingleyJen · 22/02/2008 16:29

we have one of these have had it for over 10 years, not needed any repair, deals with 2 cats 2 children and a Dh who is mucky pup.

I have lots of friends who love their Dysons but have them repaired regularly.. not sure it can be worth it.

casbie · 22/02/2008 16:37

yeh, but the white box thing is just not designed dahling!

SparklyDYSONGothKat · 22/02/2008 16:44

has the belt broken?? Very easy to replace.

JingleyJen · 22/02/2008 16:58

have to be honest casbie, if it came in groovy colours I would probably have fallen for it!
