What to do with a (not so) white cashmere cardigan?

I have a lovely soft cashmere/wood cardigan. Thing is, it's not particularly white any more - ends of the sleeves in particular look very grubby. I guess not surprising as I've been wearing it on the tube etc.

What can I do? I can't just put it on a hot wash with vanish and I don't think it's the kind of staining that will bleach in the sun. Sad to just throw it away as otherwise it's in good condition.

Half-fill a basin with tepid water and add soap flakes or baby shampoo.
Soak the cardigan in it for half an hour.
Drain the water and re-fill with clean tepid water. X 3.
Squeeze the cardigan gently to remove most of the water.
Gently lift the cardigan out and lay it out flat on a clean white or cream bath towel/sheet.
Roll up the bath towel and squeeze it.

Take it outside and either lay the cardi out flat on a clean dry towel, or if it seem almost dry, hang it carefully on the washing line pegging it at the underarms. You'll need a dry sunny day.
Drying it flat is better.
