Mouse in the house!

Help!
never had mice before, old Victorian terrace.
have had back door open all week with good weather but I imagine there are other entry points.
this one just scurried across my dining room floor in broad daylight!
any advice or tips appreciated, anything to put down they don’t like? We don’t have any pets so no pet food left out but have DCs so crumbs are about sometimes!

Depends if a one off or whether a family of mice have moved in.

We have lots of mice coming in as our stupid cats bring them in to play with. Mostly, if I can, I catch them and put them out again. They rest either get eaten (we find the head and tails leftover) or pass away (probably due to fear!).
You could put some humane traps down, and then let them go outside?
If you get quite a few, you may want to get some help as they do nibble through things.

It’s the first one I’ve seen but when we moved in a few months ago there was a dead one behind fridge.
is there any truth in the peppermint oil trick?

I always get yelled at for this on here but I put down mouse pellets. I get them from B&Q or Amazon. I just put them in the corner of each room and never see the mouse again.

Thanks both

If you've only had one or two, I wouldn't worry. If it was a rat, then I would be worried!
If you start getting lots of mice, I'd go with the mouse pellets. I know people say its not kind but to be honest, my cats probably kill/eat at 2 - 3 mice a week (that we see evidence for) and pellets is probably less cruel that being tortured by a cat for a couple of hours/days and the mice can do damage so need controlling.

I'm another whose cat likes to bring mice in and let them run free. When I find evidence of a live one, I put down traps with a peanut butter bait. It kills them instantly, so works for me. Just found one has chewed through all of my washing up cloths under the sink 😡.
