Ok, I give up, what am I doing wrong with my Shark vacuum ?

Because I am just not understanding the hype.

I first had the corded lift away version. Brilliant for vacuuming up dog hair from hard floors but anything heavier than a hair just not picked up. For vacuuming a carpet, absolutely useless.

Lift away part great for the stairs and picked up fine.

Friend bought a cordless pet anti hair wrap one and said it was amazing, so stupid me buys one and same problem. Hard floors or sucks up dog hair fine and occasionally crumbs but usually spits them back out further along, with some dog hair.
Use on carpets, rubbish yet again.

Is it me ? Am I missing out on some vital vacuuming technique ?

Are you emptying it after every use and cleaning the filter once a month? Mine doesnt pick up well if I forget to clean the filter.

The cordless is a pernickety fucker and requires regular stripping and cleaning in my experience. I do mine about once a month, which is a pain, but then it works like a dream again.
There are various places it can clog and block, have you tried giving it a good strip and clean?

fortheloveofflowers · 09/05/2023 12:17

I’m like you, feel the hype is not warranted.

Fraaahnces · 09/05/2023 12:19

Are you using the carpet beater function? I find if you use that (extra noisy) function on hard floors it basically spits crap everywhere. It’s brilliant on carpet though.

otherusername · 09/05/2023 12:19

I had one which I liked but it was very high maintenance, has to be empty with clean filters to work properly.

GeraltsBathtub · 09/05/2023 12:21

Forgive the basic question but do you have it on the carpet setting? I don’t have that exact model but mine is slide the button down one for hard floors and two for carpet.

TheOriginalNutty · 09/05/2023 12:43

Have tried it on hard floor setting and carpet setting and it's the same 🤷🏻‍♀️

Always empty it after using yep. Not cleaned filters yet as only had it a couple of weeks but I'll give that a go.

I honestly think people don't want to admit they wasted a lot of money on a mediocre piece of equipment so they say it's great.

I avoided the Shark because online reviews suggest what you've said. I bought a Henry pet vacuum instead. It really is good for all floors, and has a really long cord. But it falls over constantly because it's top heavy, which is annoying, and it's a bit of a weight to carry up the stairs

OhComeOnFFS · 09/05/2023 12:52

I had to spend an hour unblocking mine the other day - it now works really well. I've never cleaned the filters though - what do you have to do?!

userxx · 09/05/2023 12:55

No idea, my corded lift away jumps over the carpet, stupid bunny hops. Bloody thing.

gettingolderbutcooler · 09/05/2023 13:14

Hopeless. I went back to a Henry.

ConstanceReid · 09/05/2023 13:18

God, I hate ours. Unwieldy, heavy and crap. Takes up too much space too.

The Bosch one I had before and STUPIDLY gave to my parents, was vastly superior.

Lift the dust catcher out. Take out plastic and sponge filter and run under tap until water runs clear. Let dry and put back.

imapterodactyl · 09/05/2023 13:42

Mines great if I clean it thoroughly - monthly at least. It seems to think it's able to pick anything in sight up and then blocks itself. I spend a lot of time with the base off rooting around for the tiny pebble or LOL shoe (usually) that's stopping it working. I have small children so you can imagine how often that happens. Annoyingly you can't wash the main casing so despite me cleaning it more often than a hoover deserves, it never actually looks clean.

I do love it but I've never had a vacuum that has needed so much bloody attention. I long for my old stand up dyson that just worked and let me obliviously pick up crap and never have to think about it again.

TheOriginalNutty · 09/05/2023 13:56

Hmmm sounds like I should have just stuck with my less attractive but highly functional Hetty. We still have that but it's so cumbersome.

I have two corded Sharks and really like them - thoroughly cleaned every few weeks at the beginning of every school holiday. Friend has corded and cordless and rarely uses cordless - says it's rubbish compared to corded.

alexaisrising · 09/05/2023 21:05

Our corded is brilliant on carpet - really sturdy and robust, gets all the carpet crap up.

Cordless is good only on hard floors (better than corded) for picking up car hair and crap.

Have never cleaned either.
