Hybrid Robot Hoover

I know robot hoovers have been discussed a lot, but I can't find much on how good the hybrid ones are.
Are the mopping functions on these really any good?, as far as I can see it just a cloth with water that gets moved around, there is no scrubbing or detergent.

I am looking at either the Eufy G20 Hybrid, or the Ecovacs Deebot N8, seems like the Ecovacs mopping function might be slightly better, with a water pump and larger water tank, but the Eufy is slightly more powerful and quieter.
I am also a bit confused by the mapping I don't think the Eufy has this but the Ecovacs does?

I've never had a robot vac before so nothing to compare to. I'm getting it mainly as I have a Labrador that sheds constantly so need to hoover several times a day at the moment to keep on top of it. If the mop function just keeps it maintained so I can properly mop every few days that would be great.

Also, is it true if you want to take these upstairs to run you have to move the dock as well?

I got this when it was half price

ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 OMNI Robot Vacuum Cleaner, Auto Mop Washing/Hot Air Drying/Water Refilling/Auto-Emptying, 260 min, 3875 sqft, Dual Mops, 3D Maps, Live Monitoring & Video Call, YIKO Voice Interaction amzn.eu/d/bbYS9ZG

It works well my ground floor is all tiles. So it hoovers and mops on it's own. It has pads that scrub on the bottom not just dragging a cloth. I refresh the base unit every 10 days approx. This is my 3rd robot. And I wish I just went for expensive the first time. This has LiDAR/radar. And allows it to even detect pet shit and ignore it !

It's also got cameras so you can set it to sentry mode and it will wander the house silently and let you know if something going on

Following because I really want one too!

However may I ask a question @user1471518104 ?
Does the one you linked cause any issues with your wifi? Or did it connect easily?
I had one in the past but it couldn't connect to our wifi due to a 'splitting' issue, whatever that means. I had to send it back and was so sad!

user1471518104 · 07/05/2023 14:25

It's connected fine but I had to be on the 2.4ghz. Not the newer 5 ghz. Most new routers allow you to split you're wifi network. If you have any other smart device at home most of them need 2.4. Only really Netflix. Tv streaming etc need 5ghz

Lloki · 07/05/2023 15:42

Thanks @user1471518104 but I think that one is a bit out of my price bracket.
It does seem as though there are mopping ones that scrub, I have found one within my price range for that but never heard of the brand, so would be a bit cautious.

I don't want to spend more than £250 really, and if the mopping bit is pointless on them price range ones maybe its better to get one that has the pro's for dealing with the dog hair better like better suction power, bigger dustbin, filter etc?

I've got aEufy one. It does all the kitchen diner daily. Vacuums, then mops after. It only really works on relatively clean floors. If there are crumbs and light footprints it does the job, but couldn't manage proper cleaning, as it's just really a wet duster. It's great for my purposes though

I am watching this thread as Rufus my Eufy sounds like he's on his last legs, he has become very noisy lately, I'll be gutted when he dies because he's been part of the family for the last 6 years or so. He also rolled in dog vomit yesterday then tracked it round the whole of the downstairs. As I have tiled floors and pets I'm seriously thinking about one that mops too, the one linked in a previous post looks amazing but I think it's out of my price range too.

Hugasauras · 07/05/2023 16:21

We have the Deebot N8 with self-emptying station. The mapping function is great - our Eufy didn't have that, but with our Deebot you can get it to clean specific areas or rooms and it's way more efficient. The mopping isn't exactly mopping, it's just a damp cloth being dragged behind it, but it does freshen floors between proper mops. The v expensive Omni one I think has more like proper mopping with rotating mop pads etc

Hugasauras · 07/05/2023 16:23

Oh and the N8 hoovering ability is great. It leaves our carpet spotless and works great on hard floors too. We have a cat and a dog and two young kids and it has handled everything thrown at it so far!

We've got a lefant robot vacuum and 'mop' which I love but I wouldn't bother with the mop function. The mop is just a soft cloth head which doesn't spin or agitate the floor so we found it was just brushing the water around the floor and we'd still need to go over it with a proper mop to get the job done.
That being said we love the vacuum function and find it great for dog fur on carpet and laminate flooring although it's not specifically a pet one or designed for that. I'd suggest in your price range (we spent a similar amount to your budget) you're probably best finding a really good vacuum one as opposed to getting a mop and vacuum unless others can suggest one that's good with mopping.

Ours doesn't map so it just bounces around but we set it to run for 1hr each day and it always gets through all the downstairs areas quite thoroughly in that time. Yes if you take it upstairs you probably need to take the dock upstairs too as that's how it finds it's way back.

BatildaB · 07/05/2023 16:27

I got a combo iRobot one just because it was discounted and I don’t think the mop function is worth the hassle. Takes longer to set up and take apart than just using a reservoir mop. And I put a bit too much fairy liquid in once and clogged up the filter so had to replace it. Maybe worth it if you have a huge and not very dirty smooth floor, like… a ballroom or something? Not really worth it for bathroom or kitchen.

BatildaB · 07/05/2023 16:29

Oh and I don’t move the dock upstairs, but I do feel a bit guilty that it looks for it desperately as it runs out of power

Does it vacuum and mop at the same time?

The N8 does simultaneously but it won't go on carpet when you have a mop attachment on.

Thanks, if it mops things like light paw prints, that would be good?
Can you take it upstairs without moving the docking station?
Do you find the dustbin capacity big enough?

OP posts:
Hugasauras · 07/05/2023 16:57

We have the self-emptying one with a big dustbin built into charging station. We got it about a month ago and haven't needed to empty the big one yet. I think you would need to move the charging station upstairs - we use our old Eufy upstairs so haven't needed to test.

Mop does things like wet paw prints, dry residue that isn't sticky, etc. Basically anything a light wipe with a cloth will remove. It won't do anything stuck on or sticky that requires any elbow grease to remove.
