Smelly bin.. what do you do?!

So, we’re having an issue of the bin being smelt and bin juices when we change it. I do thoroughly clean the bin when we change it to absolve the bin juices etc. We had discussed getting a food bin caddy but we are unfortunately in a very small flat and don’t have our own garden so not possible to put it outside our back door as many other posters seem to do.
Every time I walk into the kitchen I get a whiff of a bad smell from the bin which is just as you enter the kitchen. I suggested to DH we just change it as soon as it starts to smell but he is against this as the bin is hardly even full when it smells - waste of the bag and time.
Especially as it is coming in to the warmer weather it’s more noticeable - what do we do?!

Our council tells us too. Our last one did too.

The council tells you to put recyclables in the bin?

I thought all councils were trying to reduce landfill waste

You need a smaller bin, so you can empty it more often.

No, it tells us to wash them though.

But yeah, this is the landfill bin isn’t it? Ignore me! 😂

OP, you need smaller bags or separate bags for food.

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair - I mean recycle into a bin. We have several ‘bins’ ie metal, glass, paper, plastic, it’s all recycled. It’s still called a bin ie our compost bin is still a bin, but gets emptied into garden compost

I mean if majority of waste is washed to be recycled, then most people only need a very small bin for other non recyclable things like cooked food. So op should get a very small bin, and just empty food waste every 1-2 days. No smell then

If you keep throwing food waste in your main bin it is going to smell unless you take it out daily.

Separate your food waste and take that out every morning when you leave. Sorted.

I put one of the little febreze toilet air fresheners at the bottom of the bin, under the bag not inside it, works a treat for the smell. Also empty the bin every night.
