Fairy liquid in the dishwasher help

Staying In a holiday house, beloved FIL has put a copious amount of fairy liquid in the dishwasher because we ran out of dishwasher tablets. How do we get rid of the foam before tomorrow morning when we have to be out by 10?

If I use too much bubble bath in my jacuzzi ordinary soap gets rid of it. No idea why but could you try that?

Just run it again with no liquid, and again, and again if necessary. Did it foam out of the machine, just visualising.

Is the kitchen knee deep in foam or is it mainly contained in the dishwasher?

Find the dust pan, buckets and any other largish plastic container, move foam to sink, bath as necessary.

I think table salt is supposed to be good for reducing foam. Cam you run it after throwing some salt in?

BertieBotts · 14/04/2023 21:39

I think you just have to wait for it to subside, doing any more washing will just agitate it and foam it up again.

Leave it overnight and rinse it with a jug of water in the morning. Then start a cycle just long enough for it to pump out and cancel. Rinse again and start a cycle long enough for it to pump out and cancel etc. Once it's no longer foaming you could run a full cycle (no detergent) just to check or just leave it.

Hairspray?
It really depends how much there is though.
I seem to remember spraying hairspray gets rid of foam...?!

Treasureboxkey · 14/04/2023 21:40

Vinegar helps.

We did this in a holiday cottage once. Either hairspray or spray deodorant worked instantly. Sorry I can't remember which it was but it did work.

We need a picture.

but generally cold water gets rid of bubbles.

Flour gets rid of bubbles but i don’t think that’s a very good idea…….

Googling suggests salt or oil

Chemenger · 14/04/2023 21:50

Tried salt, didn’t seem to have much effect. It wasn’t knee deep in the kitchen , just ankle deep. God knows how much he put in, my guess would be he filled the detergent bit. I just tried hand soap which did seem to make it subside a bit. There doesn’t seem to be a cold setting, which isn’t helpful. To add to the fun the dishwasher wasn’t draining well anyway.

Deodorant definitely seems to help. I’m going to leave it overnight and see what happens
