Cleaner - not sure if piss take

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 22:23

Got a cleaner - came recommended.

House is new built4 bed
Office
Toy room
Living room
Kitchen diner
Bathroom
En-suite
Downstairs loo
Utility

She doesn't clean office or toy room at my request.

Have no carpets in house only hard floors.

4 hours every 2 weeks. Pay £14 an hour. In regions.

When they started I asked them to do a normal clean and hoover and mop. So no oven and fridge etc.

Always make sure house immaturely tidy before comes.

My problem is that it appears that the Cleaner doesn't clean kitchen worktops, or Kitchen table. Doesn't clean hob. Doesn't dust. She doesn't clean downstairs loo. Doesn't clean under bed for dust. Found sweet wrappers next to young daughters bed after clean so cleaner hadn't cleaned that much.

Im just a bit perplexed as to what she does for 4 hours. She just appears to clean the bathroom and en-suite and a bit of mopping. Always leaves hoover in middle of rug when she leaves no sure why.

Is she taking the piss? It's not a mansion just normal size house. She didn't mention needing more hours.

YABU
she needs that 4 hours at least weekly. fortnightly not a chance will she get round to your additional requests

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 22:41

To clean kitchen workshops and kitchen table is too much to ask?

OP posts:
whatsyourpoison12 · 12/04/2023 22:43

your dd shouldn't be leaving sweet wrappers around. you should be cleaning between visits, this is the standard

beccahamlet · 12/04/2023 22:46

I don't think that's unreasonable for you to expect in 4 hours. Except maybe under the beds. 4 hours is a long time. Kitchen surfaces definitely, especially if everything is already tidy. Are you sure they're there for 4 hours?

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 22:46

I do. I hoover every 2 days. I clean the bathrooms the weeks she doesn't come. It was one wrapper next to her bed. She doesn't even hoover very well or mop. Surely if you ask someone to clean they'd clean kitchen worktops? She's never asked for more money or hours and leaves early.

My cleaner used to do three bedrooms (hoover and dust), en suite shower room, family bathroom, hoover and dust sitting room, kitchen (including scrubbing sink/draining rack), dining room dust, mop kitchen/dining room, clean downstairs loo and sometimes manage a few interior windows. She did that in two hours. —And my house is never immaculately tidy to start with—

£15 per hour. I can’t afford her any more and I miss her!

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 22:50

I work from home hence I don't ask for office to be cleaned. So I know times. I don't spy on her obviously but sometimes I just don't know what she does. I bought the hoover she wanted thinking she might improve but it hasn't.

As I said I clean in between. House is immaculate before she comes and I even clean downstairs loo before she comes which is tiny as I noticed she wasn't doing it.

Just a bit disheartening to come downstairs after clean and see worktop still has some grains of sugar on it and hob (flat surface) not cleaned at all. I've started doing it myself before she comes just to avoid the disappointment I feel when she's left.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 12/04/2023 22:52

I think you need a new cleaner. It’s horrid paying to be disappointed.

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 22:52

@pasbeaucoupdegendarme my first cleaner was amazing - a machine. She did 4 hours (I offered 5 and she said no 4 would suffice) she did all rooms, cleaned out fire, would take magnets off fridge and polish fridge (I never asked her to do the fire or fridge) and she was amazing. She became a physio and was cleaning whilst she trained. I miss her she was brilliant.

YANBU. To me stuff like clean worktops is such a basic thing. I feel like we might have the same cleaner tbh!!!!!

Fynoderee · 12/04/2023 22:53

Ive owned my cleaning business for a decade and I could complete that in 4hrs.

You need to have a chat and see what’s going on.

Re the vac - maybe she leaves it out because it needs to be emptied??
We use our own so we can take care of any maintenance issues.

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 22:53

I think I do but just not many about at all where I am. Happy to pay whatever asked and hours needed but just really difficult as rural area

Nonsense. My cleaner gets a similar house done in 2.5 hours per week.

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 22:54

@Fynoderee it's a Henry (which I hate) I have a shark hoover. I change the bag every 3 months and only just changed it.

which is still more than op is having

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 22:59

If house was a tip when she came fair enough but I hoover the night before. There's not a cup or toy out of place. All bins emptied. I clean bathrooms in between and bleach toilets for a few hours before she comes. All bottles and soaps moved and out into box. Nothing for her to move out of way.

She gets the whole house done in 2.5 hours. so she gets it done in less time. If she goes on holiday and misses a week or 2 she still gets the whole house done in 2.5 hours so 1.5 hours less than OP has hers for

She needs at least 4 hours weekly so she has time to do the kitchen counters?

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 23:06

I've let it go on too long now that I can't say something. I'll try to find someone else. I feel like I spend hours cleaning and tidying and I wanted a cleaner every 2 weeks so that I could use that time to do skirting boards and oven and fridge and windows etc. But because I end cleaning up before and after cleaner I can't face the deep clean stuff so just a waste of money. Thanks everyone.

OP posts:
Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 12/04/2023 23:06

I think it's a piss take. We have a similar size house a d I would expect to give it a decent clean in 4 hours, particularly if tidy to start with.

I don't see the point once a fortnight tho, surely you have to do it every other week?

MyBeloved · 12/04/2023 23:08

Sorry, she sounds awful. Find another cleaner who is good at their job.

norma1980 · 12/04/2023 23:10

@Vintagecreamandcottagepie I do it in the inbetween weeks. I also maintain house during week as wfh and do cleaning in lunch hour. Can't afford every week. Every two weeks so I could do face doing windows and oven etc on those weeks. Plus work full time with youngish kids who I'm always ferrying around..
