Talk to me about Shark cordless vacuums

Boring alert!

I'm not a new user - I'm an old timer but managed to somehow lock myself out of my usual account and I have NO idea how.

Quick bits:

Two young children, no indoor pets, existing vacuum has just given up the ghost after 5 years and decided not to bother trying to fix (again).

Did have G-Tech Air Ram, considering a Shark.

MUSTS: be cordless and upright, ideally lightweight, good for stairs and easy transitioning from hard floors to carpets. Needed for daily use. Tools would be a massive bonus. Ideally can get spare/additional battery to have one in use and one on charge

MUST NOTS: absolutely will NOT consider a Dyson or Vax, and no cords. No cylinder or bagged vacuums.

Budget £250.

Any advice appreciated!

I have a corded Shark stick so can't speak to the cordless versions, but I absolutely love it. Best hoover I've had (Dyson, Vax, Hoover - corded and cordless).

Same.

We have cats, and I have hair that tangles in brushes, so cordless have always been a disappointment. The Shark corded just about does the stairs without unplugging, and it goes under beds etc - we have a Baby Shark for upstairs and a Mummy Shark for downstairs and stairs. Daughter has a Daddy Shark. Don't think there is much difference between them, so if I was buying again, would stick with cheapest corded model.

I have pets so returned my cordless for a corded one. It just didn't have the battery life for my household.

Same here.

I don't understand why people opt for cordless when the Shark has a really long cord that does the stairs with ease.

I've got a Shark Liftaway and it's the best vacuum I've ever had - brilliant for doing the stairs.

I understand that corded vacuums are more powerful and therefore do a better job, however they're not suitable for us as a busy family with two very young children (toddler and baby almost crawling).

The sockets in our house are badly situated and difficult to get at, annoying when needing very frequent access.

Just bought the Shark IZ252UK which comes with a spare battery. Not tried it yet (picked up from Argos). Will report back...

I'll speak to you about them - they're a pile of crap! Every time I got it out there was a blockage somewhere or hair wrapped round (anti hair wrap just wraps it round a different roller that still needs cleaning!), filters needed cleaning, and it has too many filters. It wasn't happy about something every time I switched it on. And it doesn't like crumbs, is incapable of picking them up, just flicks them all over the place, so useless in a house with young kids. Also a lot more cumbersome and heavy than other cordless models.

The only good points;-
Interchangeable batteries
The stick bends so you can get under low stuff
Pretty good on carpet (as long as there isn't something wrong with it.....and there usually was)

Got rid of it and bought a mid range Dyson cordless with a 4 year warranty (Argos). They seem to have a lifespan of 2 years so the 4 year warranty for about £55 was a no brainier. Unlimited repairs or replace it if the same part fails twice.

Hi Op, how is it going with the new shark?

Plump82 · 29/04/2023 14:30

I had a cordless one and it's the worst thing I've ever spent my money on. And it was expensive!! Anti hair wrap my bahooki!! It also left a pile a fluff/dust whatever where it was stored as it never seems to continue sucking everything up before you turn it off.
I ended up replacing it with a 30 quid bush stick vacuum which blows the Shark out the water (excuse the pun) and it deals with my super long hair plus cat hair.

I’ve just bought a Dyson v11 cyclone animal for £255 from the eBay Dyson outlet. Says refurbished but looks new to me. One year gtee

Does the whole house on a full battery and has loads of attachments. I bought it as my bf brought his round for me to borrow and I didn’t want to give it back. The highest setting is as good as a normal hoover
