I don't know if this is the right place

I just want to know how much is ideal for a family of 4 to spend on groceries weekly for a balanced diet.

in this shit storm i reckon £100-130

Nsky62 · 03/04/2023 00:15

Depends on what you eat, more veggie is cheaper

user1497643032 · 03/04/2023 00:20

We are meat & fish eaters 🙈 lots of veg not lots of fruits, tea addicts so milk & sugar a must

I used to spend around £70-£90. I've got 2 teens, one with SN and I reckon it's gone up to £100 to £120.

No idea. We are family of 5 and spend about £700 and never seem to have loads in. I do cook from scratch a lot.

Franticbutterfly · 06/04/2023 10:35

£700 a month not a week

Mynameisntrelevant · 06/04/2023 10:47

Family of 4 here, 2dc 7 & 9 and we spend £100/120 in asda. Where do you shop?

Slimjimtobe · 07/04/2023 15:35

Similar house here and I would say 120 if you are eating fish and berries and stuff (I shop at Lidl) plus the deals at a local butcher but we often have cheaper meals to balance out things

Slimjimtobe · 07/04/2023 15:36

Some weeks I can go under 100 if I really try

bluechameleon · 07/04/2023 15:44

I can still keep our Tesco shop just below £100 for 4 of us (2 adults, 2 DC 8 and 5, 3 meat eaters and 1 pescatarian). But we do get our milk delivered separately, and DC have school dinners about 2/3 of the time. That's buying a lot of fruit and veg, meat for about 3 meals a week, fish for 1 or 2. Mainly cook from scratch but have some prepared foods too (breaded chicken, fish fingers, potato waffles, pizza, garlic bread, tortellini).

We’re 2 adults, 2 ten year olds and a cat. I spend on average £120 a week. We are pescatarian and don’t drink. This includes all out dinners, my lunches (wfh), dh packed lunches and school lunches for both dc.

Fish isn’t cheap so I balance the cost with a couple of very cheap meals per week like dahl, split pea curry, butter bean curry and vegetable pasta which helps keep the cost down a fair bit.
