Henry, Dyson or Vax?

I badly need a new Hoover & fancy one without a bag, simply because I don't like having to buy Hoover bags and obviously the added expense and landfill issue they bring.

We have lots of laminate & tiles plus a carpeted stair and hallway - Oh and we have pets.

Please can you tell me about your hoover recommendations - something robust but lightweight, if such a thing exists?

TIA

i am convinced people who complain about dysons don’t maintain them properly.

This. Same for Sharks. The downside to a lightweight, cordless vacuum is they do need declogging fairly frequently in my experience.

How often does yours need cleaning? My old Dyson wasn't too bad, I probably unclogged everything two or three times a year. The Shark stops working - literally will not pick up a leaf - every couple of weeks. The head you remove to do the stairs is fine, but the floor cleaning suction is useless.

Whatever the new cordless Dyson is, I have it and it is good.

Downside is I don’t find it very good when hoovering the car because the bulky bit of the Dyson gets in the way.

We have a cordless Shark and I would definitely recommend it. It's lightweight and easy to store...it's just easy to use. We have had a Vax and a Dyson in the past and the Shark is by far the best.

Henry every time.

Dysons suck but not in the way that keeps your carpets clean.

OctopusComplex · 26/03/2023 08:19

OMG, how many times do we do this?! None of those. Sebo, everytime. Yes it has bags, but I just chop the end off, and use an ikea clip on it.

My upright is over 20 years old, and hasn't skipped a beat. I treated myself to a nice new K3, 5 years ago, and it's just a well made as it's older brother Grin

A cordless shark.
I’m mightily relieved though, at first glance I thought this was a baby name thread. 😂

Smile me too and also agree Shark is THE best and I've had two Dyson and a Henry.

OMG I thought this was a baby name thread I came to say Henry for sure 😂

My Sebo is a thing of wonder Grin The Shark on the other hand...

It's off to the great Shark home in the sky shortly, even though it still 'works'.

Nothing as bad as that. I probably clear the hoses 3-4 times a year. And that’s usually after someone has vacuumed a load of crap, pile of leaves or annoying packaging or something that they really should have swept up first.

Hate my bloody shark, don't do it! Mine is corded and have gated it from the beginning so nothing to do with maintenance. Nowhere near as good as the miele I had before. I really don't get the shark love at all, it's such a pick eater. One tiny stone and it will kick up a right racket. The miele would take anything in its path.

Namechange828492 · 26/03/2023 15:52

My corded miele is an absolute beast, 10 years and it's as good as new. But.. it's heavy and cumbersome. My cordless dyson gets used multiple times per day and i really like it. If it breaks i will def get another one. They are extremely delicate though!

Redebs · 26/03/2023 15:56

Vax upright is my choice. Lightweight, easy to store and good suction.
Henry is just awkward and no good on carpets unless you physically rub it hard.
Dyson breaks all the time

OP thank you for asking this question!!

We have a Henry at work and I’m beginning to wonder if we use it properly. I often think I could suck up more with my teeth. I don’t find it good at all. It just kind of skims the carpet, doesn’t clean it or lift dirt.

I had a Vax but the handle wasn’t long enough and was giving my partner and I back ache, suction was good. Last year bought a corded Shark, it is brilliant the suction is much better than the Vax, it comes apart for the stairs and has hard floor and carpet settings.

Excited! I've got a shark sat in its box at home waiting to be opened. The vax was great at first but its rubbish now.

Glad someone mentioned Miele.

SleepingisanArt · 28/03/2023 09:19

Why do people love henry? I hate them! They are heavy and don't clean properly.... Had a Dyson, it was very noisy but OK at sucking up pet fluff. Now have a Miele - yes it has bags but it has a 10m cord, isn't heavy, cleans amazingly and has a quiet setting!! Love my Miele

Have you got the brush down? That's for hard floors to prevent whichever is hardest, the floor or the hoover head, from damaging the other. The kick switch on the head retracts the brush for use on carpets
