Does anyone have a washer/dryer? Are they any good?!

We don't have a tumble dryer but do have a heated drying rack. I find that clothes still sometimes smell a bit musty and take a good 1/2 day to day to dry. I have a baby too so I feel like the clothes horse is always out and taking up space. In summer we use an outside line which works much better.
I'd love a tumble dryer but we just don't have the space
Does anyone have a washer dryer? Do they work well?! Would this solve the problem?!
Thank you!

Had a couple when in rented properties and they were both terrible. The machine always seemed too wet and just steamed the clothes rather than drying them. It must have cost a fortune to run. I'd buy a washing machine and a heated airer.

minidancer · 05/03/2023 20:49

Sorry, just seen you have a heated drying rack. Mine is from Lakeland (8 years old)and it dries overnight and no smelly clothes. Do you do an extra spin?

MyLittlePonyWellies · 05/03/2023 20:50

We have had a few. Our most recent one is the best one and only one we bought ourselves as the rest were in rental properties or left in our house by previous owners.

Our current one is fine. It actually dries clothes. However, it's quite slow and you can't put a lot in there.

If I could fit it in, I'd have a washer and separate drier

MyLittlePonyWellies · 05/03/2023 20:51

We line dry a lot as well and do an extra spin and use our airing cupboard too to avoid the stinky clothes (which I also hate)

Mxflamingnoravera · 05/03/2023 20:52

I've had two, I've given up on them, they do neither washing nor drying very well. I've gone back to a decent washer and banisters/garden/clothes horse for drying.

LividNC · 05/03/2023 20:54

I use mine for a sixty minute dry cycle.

It basically makes the clothes hot and steamy. I then shove them on the Lakeland airer for half a day. It certainly wouldn’t dry a full load to actually dry. Or, maybe it would but I’ve never pushed it 😏

theswoot · 05/03/2023 20:56

Bought a Samsung washer/dryer in 2019 and the dryer has just broken for the third time - would not recommend.

Pac35 · 05/03/2023 20:58

Hmm that's kind of what I got from a Google- they don't seem to do the job.

I hadn't considered using the extra soo cycle. On our machine it's an extra 30 minutes. I'll definitely be trying this from now on. Thank you!

My partner bought one a few months ago and much to my surprise it's actually really good. We already have a separate dryer but this one is actually better and faster than the dryer. It's a Hoover H300 with a 1600 spin

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 05/03/2023 20:59

Mum’s got one, and it’s bloody awful.

washes fine, but the drier is useless

AperolSpritzUmbrella · 05/03/2023 21:00

We have an AEG one, can’t remember the model but it was £600ish back in 2017. It does what we want and I do like it although if I had the space I’d still go separate. Only really use the drier for pants and socks or baby clothes, definitely can’t dry as much as you can wash at once. The washing part is really fine, has all the features I’d want - delicates cycle, ability to modify temp and spin, delay timer. There id a full wash dry option where you bung it all in and it does the lot. Have used occasionally, only for small loads. It’s never broken during all that time and have had two children.

loveisanopensore · 05/03/2023 21:02

We've had two in rented properties.
Never very good at drying.

The last one broke and we had to remember to stop the wash cycle and switch it to rinse and spin.

Just recently bought a Beko washer dryer 8kg/5kg.

Still getting to grips with it to be honest.

It has dried today but I did have to take a fair bit out and put on radiators or I think it would have been in there forever Confused

The only place we had room for a condenser tumble dryer was in a cupboard with a big window.

It's been fine for years however my three yr old tumble dryer caught fire thankfully while I was in so I will never put one in a cupboard again hence why I bought a washer dryer.

The washing comes out quite creased which is a pain as it's creating me a huge amount more ironing than I was getting before and I have to put a wash on every day or I'd never get it all done on a weekend.

Still deciding if it's going to work for us as a household yet

evemillbank · 05/03/2023 21:15

I love mine! I've washed and dried three loads today. It dries and goes straight in the wardrobe

evemillbank · 05/03/2023 21:17

I should say it's a new model and has some type of smart tec for washing and drying. I'm sure that helps.

deuxgarcons · 05/03/2023 21:20

I recently got a Bosch series 6 washer dryer and it washes and dries really well. My previous Bosch older series wasn't great at drying but this one is good. I generally only dry socks/pants and towels and hang everything else on an airer to dry. I don't have room for separate washing machine and dryer and have been really pleased with the new Bosch one

elm26 · 05/03/2023 21:24

I agree with PP's.

I've had one and never again, the tumble dryer function just steams them, they come out boiling hot and damp.

Misslizzie96 · 05/03/2023 21:27

Have had a few in holiday homes and the drying bit has never worked very well.

Newuser82 · 05/03/2023 21:38

We have a washer dryer. The washer is ok. The dryer is dreadful. Hardly worth having to be honest. We use a Lakeland heated dryer which works brilliantly.

legalseagull · 05/03/2023 21:47

They're SO much better than they used to be. I suspect a lot of posters complaining may have older ones. We have a Bosch and it's brilliant.

DuesToTheDirt · 05/03/2023 21:50

Ours makes things really creased when using the dryer. It's OK for towels. We have a ceiling-mounted airer and basically use that all the time.

eacapade1982 · 05/03/2023 21:57

Had an aeg since 2015. The dryer element broke once and needed replacing. I take half the load out and dry it on an airer and tumble dry the other half. It works but it takes 2 hrs and probably is quite expensive to run.

mondaytosunday · 05/03/2023 22:00

I have one that came with the property and it's fine. Occasionally it doesn't dry completely so need to put it on drying cycle again. Of course you can't do the next load while the first is drying.

cocksstrideintheevening · 05/03/2023 22:06

IME they're crap

Thismummyrunstheshow · 05/03/2023 22:07

Our one is 4 years old and had parts replaced 2 years ago. It's a standard new build property appliance and I was dreading downsizing to one machine.
It's an absolute PITA waiting around constantly for a wash cycle let alone then knowing it's staying in there for the dry cycle which takes a ridiculous amount of time.

I dread winter season with this appliance. Roll on drier weather.
