DD chose a very strong colour theme in her bedroom of 3 walls shocking pink and 1 wall black. It looks very effective. She has a black blind (which is against a pink wall) and a black lampshade.

DH has said she can now have some new bedroom furniture to the grand old tune of £300. Her bed is a metal (silver) colour, so would try to keep that, was after dressing table, wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated before DH changes his mind!

Agree that white would look good, think the other colours might be a bit much with bright pink and black.
How light is her room?
Does she like black? Of course you dont want it to descend into a gothic vision of doom and gloom!!

SnappyLaGore · 10/02/2008 22:15

oh i think i knopw the ones... nice.

what about bedside table and lamp... and bedding/cushions? its all in the details you know

panna, really? i did a course at chelsea and w'ster um, 2 yrs ago i think... my own house has been only project to date tho (complete rebuild)...

SnappyLaGore · 10/02/2008 22:16

a pink gothic gloom

Pannacotta · 10/02/2008 22:18

Snappy are you too busy to work now? Shame to waste your talents...

Pannacotta · 10/02/2008 22:20

And I agree that the details are important.
You could get her some funky Marimekko type bed linen (will try and find a link) plus some lovely fairly lights, these are pretty

SnappyLaGore · 10/02/2008 22:22

er, not too busy, no. too unpredictable maybe...

how about you? why arent you working?

SnappyLaGore · 10/02/2008 22:24

ooh, nice lights. these are another option www.grahamandgreen.co.uk/product.aspx/cherry+blossom+branch+with+decorative+flower+lights/-/tke.htm

Pannacotta · 10/02/2008 22:27

This type of thing, have seen various duvet covers along these lines:
www.marimekko.com/ENG/interior/bedroom/bedlinen/unikko.htm??

Snappy I have done a bit of work recently but DS2 is only 8 months and we are moving very soon, so need to take a breather.

In what way are you unpredictable?

I quite like the fact you can do a bit of work here and there (I work for myself) with no need to answer to anyone, but not sure I could make a proper living from it IYKWIM...

Pannacotta · 10/02/2008 22:28

Snappy did we x-post there about the lights (see my previous post of 22.20 and second link)?

V weird, great minds I think!

Shitemum · 10/02/2008 22:34

I started the Rhodec Interior Design diploma course years ago but had to stop when DD1 came along. I like reorganising spaces best rather than the decorative bit . I'd love to finish the course one day...In the meantime we have re-built a house so that's got some of it out of my system!

Pannacotta · 10/02/2008 22:39

I started that course too Shitemum back in the 90s and also didnt finish it, though that hasnt stopped me working. I found the course very dry and dull.
Perhaps I shoudl finish it but the thought fills me with dread!

I do think some real hands-on stuff does help hugely. Are you working? Reorganising spaces sounds good.

I dont really do "design" either as such, I help folk with their fabrics and colours and general aesthetic things...

SnappyLaGore · 10/02/2008 22:51

nah... i saw your link and liked the lights... made me think of those other ones so linked to them.

loving the marimekko site... i have delicious 'clouds' bedding for the boys' bunks (2 sets of bunks in one room)... but they hate them! 'i want ben 10' or power sodding rangers... ungrateful little sods

unpredictable = drawn out pnd crap which i wont go into... but youre right, doing a little here and there would prob help and be a good outlet, esp as i dont need to make a living out of it (atm) either...

shitemum - so know what you mean about own house getting it out of your sytem... for the months following our (hugely overrunning, vastly overbudget) building work the last thing i ever wanted to do was look at another paint chart or fabric swatch (to say the least!)

Shitemum · 10/02/2008 22:54

I don't work as an interior designer unfortunately. I didnt get very far into the course but got good marks. It did seem a little old fashioned but I think any course that inspires you to read and learn is good. I think the Rhodec course has all been updated now anyway, it's linked to the Uni of London now and you can do a BA.

There's nothing I love more than being presented with a badly laid-out house or flat and working out how to change the layout to improve it. It's like a puzzle.

Shitemum · 10/02/2008 22:57

Snappy - yes, I just want our house finished so we can move. We are 25% overbudget. But amazingly still on schedule.
BTW, no-one actually presents me with anything, I just go round with a measuring tape in my handbag surreptitiously measuring up peoples' houses to feed my addiction!

SnappyLaGore · 10/02/2008 23:17

lol at surreptitious measuring and redesigning...

hey! maybe you can solve the riddle of how to lay out my dc's bedroom ! its such and odd shape and i cant get the layoiut to work, no matter what i do... am too close to it now, need fresh eyes

Pannacotta · 11/02/2008 10:13

Snappy sorry to hear about the PND.
I do think having a bit of something interesting to do besides looking after kids is good for morale.
CAT me if you like re your DC's bedroom, will have a look and a ponder, though sounds like Shitemums cup of tea esp - loving the name

SnappyLaGore · 11/02/2008 23:39

thanks pannacotta

if i can ever be arsed to make a sketch with measurements etc on to scan and email, i just might do that

i had all these cool ideas about specially built bed cubby mini room thingies... but went for normal bunks in the end as it is really 2 single rooms, minus the dividing wall, which i have all 3 (so far!) boys in and i thought flexibility would be a good thing... what with perhaps putting the wall in at some point as they grow, and not knowing at the time if theyd settle in together either (they have).

its an odd shaped, elongated room, with 3 windows. a pita.

Shitemum · 12/02/2008 21:07

Oh, yes please CAT me the plan and measurements! I paid for CAT and have only used it once!
