Induction hob pans recommendations

I'm having a new kitchen soon and am moving from a normal electric to an induction hob (we are not on mains gas). I've tested all my pans/casseroles with a magnet are some are OK, some not. Can anyone recommend a good pan set (milk pan plus 3 gradually larger) that isn't stupidly expensive? I can Google but personal recommendations would be helpful.

I actually bought a set in Lidl a few months ago as I had to get rid of my very good (and expensive) Fissler saucepans and pots -in fairness I had them for over thirty years so they owed me nothing but were still in excellent condition. However I didn’t want to be spending a ridiculous sum on pots and pans initially, and felt that these would suffice in the short term. They’re holding up very well indeed, and I’ve no plans to spend a large sum on another set any time soon.

This is the set and Ernesto is the brand. Might be worth seeing if your local Lidl has them.

Sorry, I'm just here for the recommendations. I bought the cheapest set of IKEA pans 4 years ago and they are still going strong, but I would like to get something with a thicker base.

I have learned that plain metal is absolutely fine with induction and I really don't need them to be non-stick.

squashyhat · 27/02/2023 09:42

Thanks @Procrastination4 I will look into those. @SimplySipping bumping for both of us!

IKEA has excellent induction pans.

always look for pans with a big fat base - that is where the iron is. some pans say 'induction' on the label and technically will work but they don't have much iron so are very slow to heat.

I bought Ikea 365 pans about 12 years ago and they are still going strong and work brilliantly with the induction hob. I got stainless steel saucepans (no need for nonstick for cooking veg, pasta etc) and I bought Circulon nonstick frying and saute pans, both of which are still working well 12 years later.

Definitely IKEA. It's worth getting their more expensive ranges

Bazookapie · 27/02/2023 10:09

IKEA 365 here too, 14 years old and still going strong.

John Lewis have lots of their own brand to choose from. I have some of these. Handles stay cool, great quality. www.johnlewis.com/browse/home-garden/cooking-baking/pots-pans/john-lewis/saucepan-sets-ranges/_/N-7d3bZ1z141ilZnp8q

We have Le Crueset (bought in sales etc.) but when we needed a few more DH went to TK Maxx (closest place to us to buy this kind of thing in person) and brought a few home and timed how long it took to boil 200ml of water. He's very good at keeping packaging intact so he took back the two of the three that weren't adequate.

borntobequiet · 27/02/2023 10:40

Mine mostly came from Aldi about eight years ago (a random appearance when I needed to buy some) and are nicely heavy based. You really don’t have to go far or pay a great deal.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 27/02/2023 11:26

'Salter' brand do a range of induction pans. I got mine from Sainsburys

DoratheAurora · 27/02/2023 11:31

Stellar pans are as good as you can get - they'll last a lifetime.

catfunk · 27/02/2023 11:32

I have the ikea 365 set and they're great and of course can go in the dishwasher.
I also have some le creuset but obviously need hand washing and are very heavy so you need to be careful not to crack or scratch the glass worn them!

I've put my Le Creuset in the dishwasher for over 20 years. They're still perfect. (Enamel plus non stick pans)

I don't think Le Creuset's IP is to boil water!

I got some Circlon frying pans from Dunelm and they're fab.

bellsbuss · 27/02/2023 11:58

MaggieMagpie357 · 27/02/2023 12:21

I bought a set of induction pans from Dunelm and they're fab, about £60 for a set of four.

squashyhat · 27/02/2023 17:34
