Help- washer dryer, iron, and crinkled clothes!

Having nearly lost the plot this morning over a simple bed sheet I thought I'd ask what on earth am.i doing wrong here?

Washed bed linen. Washer dryer (new build house so not yet got outdoor drying that I want, and trying not to dry stuff on radiators etc) spits stuff out outrageously crinkled. I'm not normally one for ironing bed linen but this was just stupid. It's new so no option to change it yet.

Question one: how can I make best use of the washer dryer, because I will have to sometimes, to avoid it making my stuff look like the innards of an accordion?

Went to iron. Have a cordless iron that has a base for charging that DP bought online on the strength of the reviews. It is crap. I've only used it to swizz over things that didn't really need it but when faced with my concertina bedding it didn't even cope with the pillowcase. It needs charging/heating back up every 30 seconds and if you use it in the base to avoid this it is unbearably heavy.

Question two: Can anybody recommend an iron for about £50 that isn't ridiculously heavy and is actually up to the job? Nothing fancy, I just want something that will do the basic job properly and without frustration.

Clearly also prioritising getting the washing line up to resolve most of this in the first place but it will undoubtedly come round again!

Watching as my dryer is the same!

It’s a faff- but before you load the tumble dryer shake everything out, smooth it and fold each item then into the dryer it goes.

You want to dampen the crinkled sheet all over with water - sprinkled or sprayed - then iron on the steam setting.
This is why so many people hate washer dryers and don't use the dryer setting.

I find the standard drying cycles give me the same issues, but if you have an option to select a drying time, it seems to be better. I find 40-50 minutes generally enough. Also can recommend using drying balls to help agitate the laundry in the drum on a drying cycle

Washer dryers don't take a whole load of drying. For example mine washes 7kg of washing but dries only 4kg so you need to have taken some of the washing out before drying. If you overload it, it does crease and you won't get them out without washing again!

Avoid a very fast spin.
I have a combination washer dryer, I remove some of the load pre dryer cycle so it is not crammed.
Take the laundry out while still warm and smooth flat and fold while warm.
We also have a heated airer and dehumidifier so I don’t tumble everything , they are hung on coat hangers to dry in shape. I don’t iron .

Thank you all, I think the thing that is irking me (apart from the iron being useless but I suspect that's a get what you pay for, and it does cope okay with t shirts and normal bits and bobs) is that I had the washer dryer on the specific beddingXL programme so wasn't expecting it to have such difficulty doing it!

I do normally underload it for normal washes but I think I will deffo also just manually set the drying time and have stuff come out mildly damp just to air dry to finish. Drying balls also added to the washing line shopping list!

I can heartily recommend the Beko washer dryers as never had a scrap of bother with the old one but we've gone for a fancy brand this time and it isn't a patch on the reliable old Beko that used to just wash, dry and then give you your clothes more or less ready to wear. Oh how I miss it!

Definitely set your own drying time so things come out still very slightly damp (I usually dry for 30-40 mins) Then iron same day and air for 24 hours.

I have one of these on my utility room wall to air / finish drying things
