Does your cleaner arrive on time?

I have a regular cleaner who comes at 10am every monday morning for 1.5 hours - that is my allocated slot. However, they are often at least 30-45 mins late. I haven't mentioned it but it is starting to bug me as I work from home whilst they are here and need to shut myself and my dog away in a room while they do the rest of the house. If they are late, it mucks up my schedule a bit!

They are ok at cleaning though so don't want to raise it as an issue if this is pretty standard! Thanks

Perfectly normal
as a cleaner I give my clients 1-2 hour window of arrival if they’re waiting at home.
otherwise. Many clients just give keyed access and I can come anytime during the day.
‘it is unreasonable to expect cleaners to show up exactly, just like your doctor can’t see you exactly at your scheduled time

Hi
Not only not normal but very unprofessional. Why would a cleaner need to be so late if they stick to their schedule which is what we do as we don't want to work over. If I am going to be late due to unforseen circumstances I call or text my customer to let them know, that way they can plan their time around you if needed.
You are paying for this service for the time slot you are given.
Maybe have a polite word with yiyr cleaner and let them know how happy you are with their standard's of cleaning but the lateness is inconvenient for you.
Hopefully they will be professional about it and understand. If you don't say anything your cleaner will never know.

Good luck.

Sorry a couple of typing errors there and I can't work out how to edit, advice about that from anyone would be appreciated as I am forever making mistakes.

I meant you can plan your time around them if they let you know they will be late instead you sitting around waiting for them.

You can't edit once it's posted

Oh really that's a bit odd isn't it?
Thanks for letting me know, I need to be more mindful of my typing errors.

Mine is very punctual. I wouldn’t need her to be and have told her so, but she comes directly from the school run.
You need to talk to her about it and work out a time that works for both of you.

Rooma · 25/02/2023 08:39

Mine is punctual but we're her first customer of the day, she comes for 9am without fail

Season0fTheWitch · 25/02/2023 08:54

Mine is punctual, up to 10 mins late which is fine as we are very rural and the roads are unreliable. I wouldn't mind if she got here an hour late, she's amazing

Anotherselfemployedcleaner · 25/02/2023 09:05

Definitely NOT standard to arrive that late for an agreed start time.

I give my clients a 15 minute window for arrival time (eg 09:00/09:15) to allow for anything that can’t reasonably be predicted in advance, and it’s only VERY rarely that I arrive later than the beginning of the window.

fivetriangulartrees · 25/02/2023 09:49

Mine always texts me when she's going to be late, or early. Unfortunately she still doesn't arrive at time she's told me she's going to arrive. It happens every week, to the point where I no longer remember what time she's supposed to come. She's also bad at cleaning.

I should look for another one, but it fills me with dread at what could go wrong next time.

Our first cleaner let someone else into our house while we were out. The next one emigrated suddenly, leaving our keys locked in their old flatshare. The next one had eye-watering BO that filled the house. The next one was brilliant but got ill and couldn't work any more. The next one said something creepy and I saw red flags - they're the only one I actually gave notice to, the rest left of their own accord.

We have not had a lot of luck with cleaners.

TheEndisNigel · 25/02/2023 11:00

Thanks all. I will have a word with them. They were 55 mins late this week. I think what irritates me the most is that they don't ever let me know, if they were to text and update me on the revised time it would be easier.

I don't want to search for someone new for the same reasons that @fivetriangulartrees mentions! Better the devil you know...

Thanks again
