Hi. Never used it before, just wondering if you've tried it and if you get a lot of substitutions and decent use by dates?

I have a home delivery, so the same thing recently, and I have the occasional substitution. Use by dates are usually good, on the rare occasion they haven’t been I’ve complained and got my money back.

KangarooKenny · 16/02/2023 07:32
  • the same thing really
Fridaysgirl17 · 16/02/2023 07:36

Same as above I use the home delivery & I've had substitutions usually fairly ok but if not I just give it back & am refunded, no issues, & use by dates usually great, once or twice might have been a bit sooner than I'd have wanted but perfectly ok & I've been getting deliveries for years & honestly I can't complain

I collected a shop last night and had one substitution which meant I got something nicer than I’d ordered. Nothing was out of stock.

I’ve never had any problems but would recommend getting there towards the middle of your slot as sometimes there can be a few cars waiting at the beginning. Also, take loads of bags as the stuff is just brought out loose in crates.

I do click and collect every week, varying between Tesco and Asda as both are on my way home from work. Any unwanted subs or items with too short dates I just hand back and a refund follows. TBH I do usually tick the ‘no subs’ option and pick up anything I need when I pop to Aldi later in the week - but there aren’t many items I have to do this due regularly so I don’t mind.

RaininSummer · 16/02/2023 07:43

Been using it for 3 years and get the odd sub as said above but can reject it. What I find handy now is the email on the morning informing me of anything unavailable or subbed so I can plan differently if needed.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to give it a go. Thanks for the tip about bags, I would have turned up with none!

I use Tesco click and collect every week. I usually do my shop online Thursday night and pick up on Friday. I don’t currently get a lot of substitutes or missing items. Massive time saver for me.

I use Tesco home delivery each week, have occasionally used click & collect. Service will vary hugely per area but I cannot fault them at all. I usually get little to no subs and subs are nearly always appropriate and suitable and dates are usually okay, they let you know of any short dates. I find Tesco have fab customer service too!

I also tried Asda but there’s usually a few subs here with them. In fact, once I had 20 substitutions in one shop and unavailable items.

Kazzyhoward · 17/02/2023 19:28

We use Tesco C&C every week. We ticked the "no substitutes" box so don't get random/weird substitutions, but the pickers are usually pretty good at substituting "close" substitutions, i.e. last week they gave us a twin pack of cream crackers instead of the single that was out of stock (but only charged the price of the single!), and the week before they gave us a sirloin steak instead of rump steak (again at the cheaper price of the rump), so a win-win really. As for best before dates, very rarely is there a problem, and if we think it's too short, they take it back and refund it (or occasionally they let you keep it anyway and still refund it!). Overall, an excellent service.

But our big problem is the sheer amount of products which are out of stock on the website so we can't include them on the order. I don't think the store update the system often enough as some of the "out of stocks" are ridiculous, i.e. no milk (none at all, not just none of the size etc I want), no tomatoes, no lettuce, etc., and so we go in for them, and there's lots in the shop!

I use both, and have done for years. Substitutions are usually upgrades. Never had a problem with sell by dates.

SettingPrecedents · 17/02/2023 19:48

I use it, and delivery, a lot. I normally finalise my shop the night before, I think that helps as it means the stock availability is as good as possible. Substitutions are normally sensible. I generally only buy meat/veg to last four days and then top up - especially for really short dates stuff like salad bags.
