What to put in the pantry

Hi
Looking for a bit of inspiration, I have just taken out my downstairs toilet and turned it into a pantry.

What would you put in your pantry

  1. All of the appliances that sit in cupboards and never get used
  1. Fill it full of food tins, baking ingredients, jars, packed lunch treats etc.

Thanks 😊

Pantries are for storing food in. Otherwise it is just a cupboard.

How much room is there? Got any pics?
I'd have a look at Pinterest for ideas. Personally unless I needed the random appliance space I'd put some lovely baskets etc in.

I've still got to paint the shelves and get something for the other walls, it's not massive.

Thinking about putting some slim shelves on the blank wall for a nice plant and some prints.

Tins, jars and dry goods, such as flour, pasta, rice.
Maybe certain appliances, e.g food processor and all it’s attachments, which are awkward to keep in a drawer or cupboard.
Supplies of kitchen roll, tin foil etc.
Shopping bags.
Extra crockery, glasses for when lots of guests are over but not used on a regular basis.

Would suggest doors for the shelves otherwise it will get dusty and it’ll be a PITA to clean.

My pantry contains all my ambient food. Means stuff is either in fridge freezer or pantry.
It also stores the magimix and instant pot. And shopping bags

I keep my mixer in mine, shopping bags, veg box and all my tins, drinks, crisps, etc. I have baskets or drawers for some items and shelves for tins. We also keep the dog food/kibble in a bin and his puzzle toys.

Sure but many of us use them for small kitchen appliances and crockery too.

I’ve got my lecreuset stuff in mine that doesn’t get used every day

overflow food is on shelving in the garage along with kilner jars full of dry goods like flours and rice

I’ve got quite a big pantry, it was converted from a spare bit of space in the kitchen. It’s fully insulated and holds all our dry food that isn’t fresh or frozen. It also holds dog food, booze, cake tins, shopping bags, trays, tablecloths, spare appliances, Christmas crockery. Anything and everything. It was meant to be a walk in refrigerated room but we use it as a pantry.

Nothing to add, other than a pantry is one of my dream things. Enjoy your pantry OP

A strong shelf at about waist height to keep heavy appliances. Not bending or stretching holding things like that is fabulous.

Sparklesz · 17/02/2023 01:56

I keep tins, baking ingredients, packets, spices etc in mine. Bags, gadgets and extra toiletries. I also have a spare freezer in mine. Oh and we keep booze in there also. I am thinking about ripping mine out and re doing it this year. I love the one they done in Escape to the chateau.

I would utilise your walls op with things like spice racks and hooks.

It depends on what other storage you have. If you have plenty of cupboards around your normal cooking area then I would rather use those for food, and have less often used things in the far away cupboard. But if you don't have that - or have just lusted for years after a "proper" pantry - then bloody well put the food in it.

I used to have a fridge in a utility room and it drove me demented going to and fro all the time, so I am biased. Now my whole kitchen is designed around "stations" and placing things close at hand for each job. But then I haven't just spent time and money making a beautiful pantry!
