My existing oven gloves are rubbish

My existing oven gloves are rubbish, they seem ultra thin and don't give proper protection from the heat. They work for a short while, then the heat begins to seep through.
I'd like a recommendation for a good pair. Traditional or modern materials, it doesn't really matter so long as they work well.

I have silicon gloves that work quite well. They were £3 from Ikea if you are near one.

These from Lakeland here are very good, but my favourite are these Ie Creuset ones here. I can't remember spending that much on them, but I think I got them at Costco. Have had them for years, would repurchase in a heartbeat.

Another vote for silicon. Added bonus is that hot liquid/fat can't go through the silicon to burn your hands. I'm

Gloves (with fingers) made for bbq'ing are the best! We've got Weber brand

Candlesamdyoga · 12/02/2023 13:15

I got some at Aldi with silicone ends. They'd e a bit clumsy but great for not burning and help me handle heavy things with confidence

Pollymollydolly · 12/02/2023 14:34

I also have the silicone ones from Aldi. I found them awkward too….until I decided to separate them into 2 detached gloves. I just unpicked the stitching and threw away the fabric connector, they are brilliant now.

I like these - hang by oven and easy to wash.

Aga oven gloves are the only ones that have lasted for me. Not silicone but pretty good insulation and flexible so you don't drop anything.

Mine are so disgustingly stained you could make soup with them but I'll keep them until they fall to pieces!

I have these from Lakeland

I got them to replace an ancient pair, also from Lakeland - unfortunately the glove part is bigger than on the older style, which is a pain if you have smaller hands, but they do protect well against the heat. I can't be doing with individual mitts!

Le cruset pan holders are my favourite

No bad review for these oven gloves

Fizzadora · 12/02/2023 16:29

I just buy the cheap £4 ones from B&M or supermarkets and have no problems with heat seepage.
Unfortunately since DH took over the cooking when he retired early, the last about 2-3 months at best because he gets food all over them and doesn't clean them off so they end up with caked on fat and cheese which won't come off either with scraping or washing. I tried silicon ones once and didn't feel safe with them. He might though so I might try those next time.

Just read the label - I was caught out recently by something in the kitchen that smelt like incredibly slimy rotting mushrooms, but which eventually turned out to be the oven gloves that I'd washed more than the "only washes once" on the laundry label. I had no idea that was even a thing but then started reading labels on oven gloves how very rock n roll and being able to wash them once or twice came up frequently.

AnnieKenney · 12/02/2023 16:52

I have these - utter gamechanger being both separate and silicone. Never burn myself anymore when I used to regularly.
