Moths in a new build

Moved into a complete
new build just before Christmas and have noticed we seem to have increasing numbers of little silvery moths - usually on the ceiling but I’ve also
found some just sat on the floor. I counted 4 in my son’s room tonight.

We have no carpets except in one room in the basement. All our furniture is new. We have new woollen curtains so slightly panicking they will be attacking those.

Husband maintains it’s normal in a new build and they are attracted by the paint and fumes?! Can’t find anything about
this on Google 😬 We are still having work
done in the house and will continue to do
so for a good few months. We have an ventilation system throughout
the house that pull in and filters air
from the outside so I’m surprised that this hasn’t stopped them. The only other thing I can think of is they’ve come in on our clothes during the move despite treating them. Thanks

Excellent timing of course as just about to go away for a week’s holiday and slightly terrified about what we’ll find when we come
back 😳

Has anyone come across this before?

Attracted by paint fumes? Common in a new build? Think he's having you on! Moths are often found in older houses

In all seriousness you need to sort this asap! I'm not exaggerating. Do a google search or even a search on here absolute nightmare to get rid of. Some have had them for years and actually seem quite grateful when they only find a few each year.

We had moths, carpet moths. The only place we had carpets was the stairs. Places i found them, toy box, skirting boards, stairs, cupboards, gaps on counter top, utility cupboard, literally any gap you can think of. Trust me when i say they can and do go anywhere and everywhere. I never found any holes in clothes AT ALL. They seemed to be attracted to dust/dirt this is why i said more likely to be found in older houses

I found a few last year. This was after treatment the previous year.

I got lots of sprays and sprayed every nook and cranny. Incredibly hard when you're living in a home to treat everywhere.

My advice would be to sort this out before you move in. It does seem you have an infestation.

This is not really moth season either so the fact you're seeing so many suggests you do have a big problem but hopefully with the house being virtually empty you can sort it. Very hard to do when you're a family living there.

Check that carpet and the woolen curtains.

I would suggest that the moths have come with you from your previous place and been disturbed out of hiding by the moving process. You need to clean, clean, clean and get rid off all cardboard boxes as they hide in the folds. Also get some sticky hormone cards too. Moths do a lot of damage.

We have moths (old house) but they're not active during winter. If you've been seeing them for a couple of months at this time of year I'd be concerned that your house is so well insulated that it doesn't have any internal seasonal changes, and you might have a moth problem year round.

Use some sticky pheromone traps to see how many moths you catch and which rooms are worse.

You can get a professional company in or try smoke bombs in individual rooms (haven't used them myself).

I get pheromone traps/refills from this company as they're cheaper than shop bought ones:

If you've time to order, try the parasitic wasp while you are away
