Is there a really good way to do this without smearing hair and dust all over the place?

tissue.
I spray with cleaner and clean it with tissue and then buff it off with a dry bit of tissue once clean.

I use a damp cloth and bathroom cleaner then I buff with the dirty towels I am about to wash.

Toilet roll.
I spray the whole thing. Scrub with a brush, then use paper to dry everything off.

Dry cloth first to get rid of dust, then clean.
Also doing it more regular (even just the dust part to stop it building)

I use tissue too.

But has anyone tips on how to get the bit under the rim clean - whatever I use it looks stained!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 03/02/2023 14:25

@BloggersBlog a good descaler like the domestos black bottle on and either a flexible silicone toilet brush or get your finger up there with a cloth - gloves optional.
I like the flexibility of a silicone flat toilet brush and they are easy to keep clean.

Under the porcelain rim? Do you mean the rim itself? What I'd call under the rim would be hidden. I have a brush with an upward poky side bit that goes up there. It occasionally sweeps black mold out.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 03/02/2023 14:27

and let the product sit for a bit before scrubbing it and rinsing. !

White vinegar is amazing for getting limescale off - much better than Domestos etc.
Pour about half a cup in, leave overnight, and then give it a rub with a scratchy sponge in the morning. Honestly works better than any of the branded toilet cleaners.

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/02/2023 15:35

If you mean around the base then I would recommend you use a vacuum cleaner nozzle or brush attachment first, or the dust will get smeared over the porcelain. Bathroom floors do seem to get very dusty.

Ripleysgameface · 03/02/2023 15:54

Thanks all, I'll try some of your suggestions.

I clean it every couple of days but it's still always dusty and hairy!

@BloggersBlog flat silicone toilet brush is game changer for maintaining but when I moved here mine was caked in limescale.
I used the HG limescale remover. Soaked kitchen roll with it and tucked it round the rim and left overnight.

Nylon sponge scrubber, I wash my scrubbers from the kitchen in the washer & when they get too worn use them for the toilet before binning them.
