Help! DVD marker pen on the oak coffee table....

DP left a balck DVD marker pen out, DS used it on a bit of paper on the coffee table (Habitat, light oak, light matt laquer) and the pen has gone through. I have tried a damp kitchen roll with warm water, a baby wipe, and a wipe with a little olive oil on it. The marks remain.
I daren't use solvent as it will fetch the laquer off.

It's our only decent bit of furniture - is there any hope?

I don't know if this would work on furniture but when someone graffitied on the car with black marker, my grandad (who worked in the print trade) told me to put petrol on a piece of rag and gently rub it to lift the ink off - it worked and did not damage the paint finish on the car. Not sure what situation would be on lacquered furniture though? Can you test on a not obvious bit!

Thanks Sam - will try that on an underneath bit first!

Buff the marks gently with a paste of bicarbonate and water. Even if you buff pretty hard, it's not harsh enough to do visible damage to the finish. I got permanent marker off our finished wood (no idea what wood) dining table with it, was happily shocked that it worked! It got ballpoint off, too.

Forgot to say, on some marks you have to patiently sit there rubbing paste on it for ten minutes...but it was worth the time to me!

ok - bicarb more user friendly than dangling a rag in the car petrol tank! Less smelly in front room, too!
