Sick of clutter/cleaning

So my house isn't unclean but there is just clutter everywhere. I keep hoping a cleaner will sort it but no. Today I tried one and she said all her existing clients have nothing on the kitchen surfaces or draining boards so easy to clean. I just cant seem to keep on top of things. I'm working, a single parent and I just want to make a dent in this!

WHERE DO I START

I have recently started a professional decluttering and organising business in my area, can you try googling or looking on Facebook selling pages for something similar. ... It's not as expensive as people think. (Generally I believe in cheaper than a cleaner)

You could do the ‘27 item’ fling today. Not sure why it’s 27 but think it’s from Flylady. Go round house today with bin bag and find 27 things to get rid of. Very satisfying and a good start.

Then do something like 31 day declutter challenge. 15 minutes per day in a different area. You can decide your area or Google it and there are tables that tell you what to do. Or Flylady.

TOMM also good - clutter buster.

Good luck.

I've just got rid of about 80% of my clothes. It's been amazing I can actually find things to wear and the stress has gone.

Now onto other areas!!!

I love the approach in Dana K White's Decluttering at the Speed of Life. It's realistic and not an unattainable project (I loved the theory of Konmari but never got through all of it) and best of all to me, it's all completely interruptible and doesn't make things worse before it gets better (like when you pull everything out of a cupboard).

Stick on some of her podcasts (A Slob Comes Clean) and just get started following the tips along the way.

I feel the same!

A busy week means stuff just gets dumped and out back in all the wrong places then I spend all weekend tidying.

For you maybe look at a decluttering/ organising service if you can afford it.

If not I'd sort what I can see first. Like for me all the little bits of kids toys like duplo that get thrown everywhere we're the first to go because I spend so much time picking it up. Then done the rest of the toys cos they puss me off the most.

Once the most visual stuff is organised id then do room by room.

Look online at organising solutions - boxes, baskets etc.

@DitzyBluebells thank you and everyone else. Today I cleared the children's rooms and there is only a bit left on the bed. I started on my work desk and that's nearly clear. I can't believe the crap that has piled on. I can see the table finally.

Well done. I'm off to do my bedroom.
