Tewkesbury?

Hi everyone,

My job is fully remote and my husband has an interview in Pershore so we’re looking at areas that are commutable to there. We viewed a house in northway in Tewkesbury today and while the house was absolutely gorgeous, the area was questionable I think. Can anyone verify whether it’s good/bad? Where in/around Tewkesbury is best? We have a two and a four year old so good nurseries and infant schools needed xx

Check it's not in any part of Tewkesbury that floods, because it floods A LOT!

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 05/01/2023 16:21

Twyning is a beautiful village with lots going on not far from Tewksbury

blobby10 · 05/01/2023 16:29

Think I need new glasses - I read that your husband had an interview in Perthshire and was wondering why on earth you wanted to live so far away in Tewkesbury 😫😫😢

peonies1988 · 05/01/2023 19:24

Hahaha @blobby10. he doesn’t even want to commute from Birmingham where we currently live so Perthshire might be a stretch!

thank you @ChicCroissant @Whowhatwherewhenwhynow - I will check that out. Yes I have heard about the flooding and seen the pictures online - I couldn’t believe how bad it was!

Tewkers is OK. Like it’s OK.
It’s a bit Meh.
If I was working in Pershore I’d be looking at villages like Upton Snodbury, Flyford Flavell, basically any of the villages east of Worcester. Or Pershore itself? Or are you looking for a town?

MissyB1 · 05/01/2023 19:32

Why not Pershore itself? Far nicer than Tewksbury.

peonies1988 · 06/01/2023 07:47

Thank you @Shadowboy @MissyB1 we would be renting initially and can’t find any decent rentals in Pershore itself sadly, will have to keep eyes peeled. Have looked at Upper Snodsbury too. But yes, after yesterday definitely not sold on Tewkesbury.

I have lived in both places. I found Tewkesbury quite uninspiring to be honest. Not much going on and has a depressing vibe. For me at least. It’s also a fair drive from Pershore. Pershore is lovely as are the villages surrounding it. Both places flood badly though so you need to bear that in mind. There is an independent Arts centre in both places. Both have train stations. It’s a two hour train journey to London from Pershore. I’m not sure why you’d be looking in Tewkesbury if your husband works in Pershore.

Not really. It’s very dull and nothing going on when I was there. Also people aren’t friendly.

thats interesting to hear. My friend lives there and it seems like a lot available compared to other villages (2 pubs, decent park, decent sport facilities, some recreational groups etc). However I haven’t lived there so this is just based of my friends accounts.

Consufed · 06/01/2023 09:49

Cheltenham is not much further and might fit the bill? Or Alcester or Malvern?

peonies1988 · 06/01/2023 10:55

@Walnutwhipsarenothesame we can’t consider smaller places really as I don’t drive so we need a town with a school and nursery in walkable distance.

@Consufed thank you, yes I will have a look at Cheltenham.

Pershore itself is charming, and always seems busy (in a good way). The train station feels a bit of a hike from the centre, although my view is probably coloured by having to haul two heavy bags of work kit each time I go by train.

I've also worked in Tewkesbury a little, and from that experience I'd prefer Pershore, which seems friendlier and with more to do. Plus the flooding situation in Tewkesbury, as PPs mention, is not great.

MissyB1 · 06/01/2023 14:47

Cheltenham is horribly expensive, nice town but sooo expensive compared to Worcestershire.

CMOTDibbler · 06/01/2023 14:53

I'd keep looking for a rental in Pershore - it is worth putting a post on the local FB group as that seems to be a way a lot of people find out about rentals. I know that my friend who has rental flats never puts them online, it is all word of mouth.
If you don't drive then it is perfect as everything is in walking distance, including the pool

Agree with this. Good idea!

peonies1988 · 06/01/2023 16:28

Try the Pershore Noticeboard group btw, thats the most active. What size and budget are you looking for?

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 06/01/2023 19:54

OP, have you considered Malvern? We moved here about 18 months ago and love it.

It’s about 25 mins from Pershore and there’s plenty within walking distance if you don’t drive. From my house I can walk to town, shops, library, schools, nurseries, swimming pool, etc.
