I'm thinking about getting a steam mop, I have LVL laminate flooring. I'd appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks

Use with caution as it warped my laminate floors over time.

slamwich · 05/01/2023 16:02

I don't think they are

uncomfortablydumb53 · 05/01/2023 16:09

I got rid of mine.. it just spread dirt around so I'd say no

NotLovingWFH · 05/01/2023 18:42

We have karndean and it’s literally the only thing that actually cleans it so imo yes they are totally worth it. We have a Vileda one that is just a floor one, cost about £60 on amazon and worth every penny. I

LadyEloise1 · 06/01/2023 20:05

Yes. Definitely worth it.
You're not spreading water from a bucket filled with dirty water ( after a single squeeze of the first mop ) around the floor.

I looked into these little while back, read lots of reviews and watched videos and the answer seemed to be no. Even the best of them didn't do a good a job as a manual mop with a bit of effort. I think they are still too new to be a mainstream replacement.

HarryBlackberry1 · 06/01/2023 20:23

I have a Shark steam mop. It is great. I bought lots of mop pads, so I only use a pad once then it will get washed. I have wooden floors and laminate in my kitchen. It makes a huge difference as I have a muddy dog.

ichundich · 06/01/2023 20:37

They're good if you hoover first and the floor isn't too dirty. I wouldn't use one on laminate or at least not often. I mop our tiled kitchen with a steam mop, but certain stains (e.g. tomato) come off better with a conventional mop.

PrinceofWails · 06/01/2023 20:41

Oh no, don't say this: I've literally just unpacked a new Shark Klick n Flip, my last ditch attempt to stop our house smelling like a boarding kennels. We've got (old) tiled floors and two dogs - it's the doggy smell as much as the mud that I'm trying to control.

woodhill · 06/01/2023 20:44

I have had them but in the past but tbh a mop is fine

They seems to push the dirt around

ChocoFudge · 06/01/2023 20:47

Yes! So much better than a regular mop. Love mine.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/01/2023 20:48

Hated mine. Took ages to get rid of the tide marks. I was just pushing muck around.

Rummikub · 06/01/2023 20:48

Can they be used on carpet and rugs?

Toddlerteaplease · 06/01/2023 20:49

Flash mop all the way for me!

Hbradley · 06/01/2023 20:49

Totally worth it in my opinion. Makes mopping much more fun and feels a lot cleaner 👍

HoneyDragon · 06/01/2023 20:49

Don’t like them. But I do love my Bissell Crosswave. Certainly more than my mucky family and dog that cause the need for it.

Hbradley · 06/01/2023 20:50

Also no need for nasty chemicals as all the cleaning done via the steam

a lot of faffing about and not a difference to using a normal mop, i have a shark one

PrinceofWails · 06/01/2023 20:52

I was under the impression that the steam killed bacteria which in turn leads to the doggy smell - I can't use a lot of anti-bacterial products or make merry with the Zoflora as we're not on mains drainage and too many chemicals upsets our water treatment unit.

maryofthevirginkind · 06/01/2023 20:53

I'm undecided and had hoped for more decisive answers!

I wouldn’t for laminate - the steam can start to lift the edges. Fantastic for tiles though.

BrewandBiscuit · 06/01/2023 20:57

I really like mine. I use it in my link kitchen floor, tiles in the bathroom, laminate floor (gentle setting) and also on the carpets, rugs, mattress etc for bacteria killing.

WeAreTheHeroes · 06/01/2023 20:58

Okay - I am sure I have read that steam mops can affect the adhesive so are not recommended for LVT. Try a hard floor cleaner instead - Karcher or Vax. I have a Karcher one and love that there are no buckets of water, etc.

InFiveMins · 06/01/2023 20:59

Absolutely worth it. A normal mop just spreads the dirt around 🤢 A steam mop gives a proper clean and leaves my floors sparkling. I love mine!

NotLovingWFH · 06/01/2023 22:09

I have steam cleaned our vinyl flooring on a regular basis for nearly 15 years without any adverse affect. I think as long as you don’t hold the steam mop in one place and keep it moving there’s no reason for it to lift the adhesive. I’ve tried loads of different spray mops and traditional mops but I think they’re actually more likely to cause water issues and just don’t clean anywhere near as well.
