Le creuset burnt

While making popcorn in my le creuset I managed to burn both the popcorn and the pot. The burn residue has been removed and the inside feels smooth and nice like a le creuset but its gone black!! Any wise ideas on how to clean it?

Try soaking it with a bio laundry tab/sachet and a tiny amount of water overnight? It might fade the black to grey a little.

PrayingandHoping · 05/01/2023 12:11

Simmer some water in it with bicarbonate of soda for 10 mins. Will all come off

QuertyGirl · 05/01/2023 12:13

Put oil on it and leave on low heat for a couple of hours. Scrape off

When I tried that with my cast iron Le Creuset it took many, many washes to get rid of the odour and taste of bio washing liquid (it does work on my stainless steel ones though).

Call them and ask what to do! They might replace it. Don't use bicarbonate as you invalidate the guarantee

PrayingandHoping · 05/01/2023 12:16

Simmering baking soda also works

They do sell a specific product ( I got it from an outlet store but sure you can get it online) called Le Creuset Ecological Cleaner & Protector. It's pretty good and will certainly improve yours if not remove it totally.
I have also used Bar Keepers Friend if you happen have any of that in.

????

I've never heard of that. Where have you read that? It's a cooking material. It can't damage the surface no more than fairy liquid

F4chrissakes · 05/01/2023 12:23

Don't use anything abrasive on it. Cooking red cabbage stained my le Creuset pot, cleaning it with Bar Keepers friend removed the stain it's true, but it also dulled the enamel, meaning now that pretty much anything cooked in it stains the pot again.
Le Creuset customer care is pretty good, I'd ask them for advice.

@PrayingandHoping I used bicarb on a pan that had suffered a similar fate. I then heard about the guarantee, but when I called them they said if I hadn't used it they would have sent me a new pan, but I had invalidated the guarantee.

PrayingandHoping · 05/01/2023 12:36

@Nightmanagerfan

It's not anywhere on their website or on the instructions that come with the pans

I think I've always used baking soda actually

PrayingandHoping · 05/01/2023 12:44

@Nightmanagerfan

So the t&cs say to follow care instructions which are these

If they are saying bicarb is a harsh abrasive cleaning agent they need their heads testing. It's a cooking ingredient and less dangerous than fairy liquid lol

Sounds more like a fobbing off

Boil some rhubarb with a little water and leave to soak. You might be able to get frozen rhubarb.

Nightmanagerfan · 05/01/2023 13:28

@PrayingandHoping I was just sharing my experience in case it saved someone else from not being able to claim on the guarantee

PrayingandHoping · 05/01/2023 13:31

Oh yes I did appreciate that :)

TakeMe2Insanity · 05/01/2023 14:18

Ok lots of ideas here! Thank you

I've bleached mine overnight before now. Somewhat controversial but it came out white again. I have two Le Crueset pans, a sweet one and a savoury one. It was the savoury one which got burned so after the bleach I boiled some onion for a while to get rid of the smell.

Nancy Birtwhistle has a remedy for this - she’s on instagram. She uses green bleach which iirc is sodium percarbonate - soak overnight - worked beautifully for me.
