Filing paper documents

As I’ve had such helpful advice about coloured storage boxes, I’m now going to ask the wise MNs about storing folders .

I am sorting through my papers and pruning them. But still have things like manuals, warranties, letters, work documents, bank stuff etc .

I have categorised them and put them in plastic wallets . Like these. www.amazon.co.uk/Folders-Plastic-Wallets-Documents-Stationary/dp/B07PQT9P2M/ref=asc_df_B07PQT9P2M/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=278492233881&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=68386802254640398&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045999&hvtargid=pla-707742016029&psc=1

Now what is the best way to store all the wallets , to keep the, tidy bit all accessible. Especially ones I’d want to get hold of more regularly ?

oh and whatever it is will sit on the top of my chest of drawers, so needs to look ok.

thanks

I have a 35l Really Useful Box - they have edges that will hold suspension files so I have use it like a filing cabinet.

Can you use it without the suspension files ? I find them annoying as when I’ve tried to use them they are me up not really holding a filled plastic folder in place and being wobbly .

Some sort of magazine rack? I keep my papers in a mixture of lever arch and boxfiles on a shelf but have a magazine rack with one of those wallets with things that still need doing in it, alongside magazines still to be read etc (I get quite a few membership ones). I keep manuals/instructions in one of those wallets inside a kitchen cupboard down the side of baking trays etc stood on their edge.

I’ve put the manuals all in one wallet, but there are a lot and then have to tip out to find one I want . Need to organise them differently .

inhave used the box files. I was wanting something where they stand up rather than lie on top of each other, if that makes sense ?

im getting a magazine rack for magazines. But not sure I want folders in it .

im spending far to much time working out how to organise things and nit enough actually doing it !

I use the box files upright on their end, mine take up the full width of the shelf but you could use book ends to keep them stable ofherwise

haha! Found this thread without even noticed the tag 😂

Depends on how often you want to access them/how concerned you are about the look.

My immediate thought was magazine files. Box files if you want the plastic files completely hidden but I probably wouldn't have put the papers in the plastic wallets if I was using those.

I've got a couple of the really useful box with suspension files - those are in a storage room and only used for archiving, again though if you've already sorted into the plastic wallets...

I've got low profile magazine files from B&M at work that I use for keeping documents in those type wallets. They work great if you really don't mind seeing the plastic wallets and it keeps them very tidy and very easily accessible. Problem is you can only get what is on the shelf in B&M when you visit...took a few visits to get what I wanted. I've got four of the blacks ones on top of my piano to store music too - the magazine file itself virtually disappears.

I had these in a teenagers bedroom to store revision guides and all the other stuff they wanted on their desk - which was quite a lot...white because that went with the decor

For the kind of things you're talking about storing I have those in either a cupboard with the cheap build yourself basic brown cardboard magazine files (other paper work is in those metal office drawer units).

Anyway, as you can tell I've heavily biased towards magazine files for what you're talking about.

It’s going on a top of chest of drawers, so it might not keep it stable .

Quite like the magazine option.

what would you use if not the plastic wallet ?

there are three types of documents I’m filing .

So ones I don’t need to access often. I have pruned these a lot s don’t need years and years of receipts and statements . Now just have most recent as sometimes needed to prove identity etc . And only receipts that still might need .

Ones I want to be able to get hold of such as recent bills . Things I might be using for some reason.

Then there are the manuals I want to access and find quickly . They are in a box file at the moment and have to rummage !

Just because of the spring loaded clip in the box file really - would prob just separate/group using clips or more flimsy plastic sleeves.

This is what my music looks like in four of those narrow B&M magazine files. So all very visible but very easy to access. If you want it neater/more covered then something more robust like the ikea ones would be better.

And the colourless ones at work…with some files like yours

I like this.

I have loads of plastic wallets , so I could sub divide more so easier to find specific manuals and then use magazine files to put them in .
