Hello everyone, it’s that lovely time of year when we all aim at a fresh start! Welcome back to our regulars, and if you are new or returning, a huge welcome to you as well! Please feel free to post or lurk, whatever helps you most.

So, Flylady. That mysterious system that promises a lovely clean house! This link is a good place to read about the basic principles, but we strongly recommend ignoring the first bit - do not sign up for emails as you’ll be inundated!

www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

If you’re new to the system, or are wanting a refresher course, the baby steps may be a good idea. Some are more useful than others, we’ve found, and stuff like affirmations may not work for you, so pick and choose what you want to try. You don’t have to do it all! Perfectionism can be left at the door, we celebrate any achievement here no matter how small it seems (this is why you’ll see our Ta Da lists as well as To Do lists!).

www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

There are parts of the house called zones, each taking a different part of the month, and missions in those zones to do little tasks we may have neglected. If you don’t feel ready for those though, a good way to start is doing 15 minutes decluttering in that zone! Remember it didn’t get messy in a day so it won’t be fixed in a day either. Slow and steady.

Then there’s the daily focus - each day of the week has a theme, although many of us switch them around to suit our own lives.

Each day I’ll provide the link to the launch pad, which is where you can see what is meant to be done that day (but again don’t feel you have to do all of it! That way lies burnout!).

A couple of principles we talk about on here are:
Future Friend - the idea of doing something today that benefits you later, such as choosing your clothes or making your lunch the night before.
Power of Three (po3) - if you’re overwhelmed, just pick three easy tasks - no matter how small - and forget about the rest until they’re done. Then reassess and decide another three.

Finally a few acronyms:
DW - dishwasher, not dear wife!
LOL - load of laundry, we aren’t finding washing hilarious
WM - washing machine
TD - tumble dryer

Hospital person came home in the early hours after an appropriate timed wait. tests take time, and a lot were needed. They are still not great but GP care. I lost yesterday to sleeping. Not feeling great this morning though. Would seem i have gone down with yet another bug that is going around.
Next year my immune system will be great.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 11/01/2023 08:36

Aww pompoms the party sounds amazing! Re dance it’s just a mixed age home ed club (run by the dance school where DS does tap). DD1 did ballet for a few years but not until she was a bit older, she was far too tired after school. Now she’s doing 3 classes in the week plus Saturday mornings because she’s got a show in early March (ballroom and street), not great timing with GCSEs looming but she also needs it to let off steam IYSWIM. So tricky. I will be very glad when year 11 is over!

The girls’ new flooring has arrived. Not going to be fun to store that until we have the time to redecorate but the savings on Boxing Day were necessary! Thankfully the hallway is a decent size but it will need to go into their room I think. We were hoping to do their room in February half term but given that just afterwards DD1 has more maths and English mocks and the dance show I don’t think that’s realistic really.

I am feeling quite low this morning after a rubbish day yesterday (except the school visit which went well). I finally have the house to myself for a bit this morning but will have to work for part of that.

po3.1
❗️Meds, water, breakfast
❗️Fill in e-consult request form for GP (one of the many things I’ve been procrastinating about)
❗️Shower and hair wash

freezingpompoms · 11/01/2023 20:35

@CurseYouPerryThePlatypus it's awful being low so I hope that has passed for you.

Today:
❄️baked and decorated cake
❄️baby group
❄️friend and toddler over for lunch and a play
❄️returned library books
❄️downstairs floors
❄️changed middle child's wet bed
❄️AND DRUM ROLL I used my new wonder bag. I had it for Christmas. It's basically a big sleeping bag for saucepans. I made a chilli and you prep and begin to cook as normal, boil for 5 mins then take it off the hob and put it in the bag, do it up and cools in its own heat so you don't use any fuel when simmering for a few hours.

EspeciallyDetermined · 11/01/2023 21:32

Oh, I saw those on the BBC Good Food FB page recently @freezingpompoms , sounds like a great idea. The Everhot similarly, you start things on the hob to get them boiling and then put them in a low oven to finish cooking, things like rice, potatoes, steamed veg.

PeachiceT · 11/01/2023 21:36

Curse, hope you are feeling brighter now.
pompoms, sleeping bag thingy sounds amazing!

Think I have EH envy ED. I'm wishing I had some sort of constantly low level "on" cooking appliance, it would make the kitchen so cosy

Oh it has been busy on here today. Wish I had known.

I have the Everhot 110i in sage.
We had Irish stew tonight mmm it was delicious, slow cooked for 4 hours plus.
I started straight away today before DH was up. Kettle on and then into my wide baking draw.It was used alot at Christmas so I thought a good tidy and clean was needed. I also wiped over all the top cupboards and baking cupboards.
Boudoir bed made and window cleaned which took a while as I had painted on it this year for village "Light" event.
It was very mild today so I went into the garden and cut back the mauve buddleia as DH hadn't got around to it and neither had I.One chicken wander around near me the others stayed in. She was rewarded with a few worms when DH dug the pacted soil so the door could shut more easily. Cleaned them out with a half clean. Need to buy more bedding before I do a full clean which I usually do on Saturdays.
Vacuumed sitting room and bottom hall carpet.
Swept kitchen floor tonight as DH didn't. I bought one of those rubber brooms for £6 from B&M. It seems to do a good job. It was great on the stairs but now mucky from the kitchen tiled floor and someone's muddy feet🙄so I might buy another for the stairs.

POm Poms the party and teas sound lovely. We had that book at college.

Willow that sounds awful, poor DD and poor you shouldering all the worry and likely the workload.I would leave them a list and a note tomorrow.

Peachice. A no spend day here too. Is that £8 since the first.I am very impressed if it is. I had a little spend in B&M on Sunday but that is all. A broom £6, a clear box £2 to house some make up so I can leave a basic kit out as I don't wear it much now but when I want to I can't find some of it. No mascara the other day, found it since. Two colouring mindful books for Ukraine. £1.50 each.
Are you counting food bills or just extras?

Dancing
I lost a few posts. So annoying.

Perry sounds like a good plan re lunch.

Hazel making my mouth water. My chutney turned out really yummy. Both Delia's recipes. Christmas Chutney and Apricot Chutney.

So for missing some but I really need to go to bed my eyes are shutting, I have drunk my tea and eaten my snowball so must go. Night, Night.

DitzyBluebells · 13/01/2023 01:43

Never did get much done. Keep thinking about decluttering but not doing anything.

Ta-da's:

🐠 Morning routine
🐠 Pics taken and big thing I need rid of advertised, hope it doesn't take forever to sell
🐠 Long soak in the bath because for some reason I'm aching, hope I'm not coming down with something
🐠 Took a walk
🐠 Evening routine

HungryHazelEyes · 13/01/2023 03:19

Dobby is doing so much better! He's back to his normal self. Thank you for thinking of him Ditzy
Not a huge amount of flying done since Tuesday, but I did actually wipe out part of the fridge tonight! 😇 <adjusts halo>
Peach we've cut our spending way back. We actually had gone shopping since before Christmas. Since then it's mostly groceries and petrol and I'm not counting those. I'm not counting bills either.
Other expenses have been dentist $50 and vet $220 (got the 6 months supply of flea and tick meds for Dobby also and that's $90!). Those were also needed. It's the other stuff that adds up quick. DH has ordered one or two things on Amazon, but has used his gift cards from Christmas.

Anyway, getting sidetracked. I'm about to get in the bath, I'm feeling like my hips are tight. I know yoga would help but I'm lazy and my stomach isn't feeling the best today.

PeachiceT · 13/01/2023 07:14

Redsquirrel5
The rules I set for myself are no unessesary spends , such as clothes shopping or top up shops, Amazon etc. So bills , things that are needed ( I bought a new hairdryer and a frying pan) , normal food shop are all ok. Yes £8 since the 1st , which was little treats for my DC . Sounds like you are doing really well too 😄

PeachiceT · 13/01/2023 07:28

Hungry- you are right the little things all add up and I can see a difference already. We have had some large unavoidable bills this month too .
Sounds like you are doing well . Hope you feel abit better today after some rest

🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

Friday 13th 😬 January

Maybe we should all have a day off from housework as it can surely only bring worse luck…

But if not, it’s Friday, our last weekday in zone 2, so keep decluttering in there if you can.

Daily focus is to clean out your car and/or handbag.

Today’s baby step is to find a mission and do it. Today’s mission is sweeping and mopping the kitchen floor.

Here’s the launch pad:

www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

but fridays and especially friday the 13th were considered lucky before the church decided to corrupt the old traditions. I like friday the 13th. They are typically pretty productive.

ta da
sorted the junk draw of the kitchen with all the misilaneous stuff gets thrown
go through kitchen storage and figure out what is needed to help get organised
request person to make labels for tubs
discuss transport plans for an event
ikea run to pick up needed tubs and fake plants for the spots which don't get enough light (killed spider plants there) but benefit from greenery
talk to ds re-assignments and exams etc
put away the air matress in new accessible location
put chair back where it lives now matress not there
move stuff back to their non christmas homes
fix the computer that had a moment
get info sheets for the emergency folder that is going in the lounge so i don't have to play hunt the info if we have another emergency it'll happen at some point due to what is going on here
weave in ends on blanket which is 3 rows to completion
sort through some old toys and games and put some in the charity shop box, and the give to small cousins box.
take ds to pick up his new glasses.
sort through 3 abandoned containers of food shopping
clear out some random stuff off bench
mutter dark words about people who are not able to wipe a bench after themselves.

Just cooking tea before i need to tackle some washing up/dishwasher stuffs. I think an early night might be required. I am feeling really off but then i haven't eaten properly and period is due so that might play a role in the situation. I might see about taking a walk.

UsernameNotPresent · 13/01/2023 20:44

I am sorry to hear that fledgelings' nearest and dearest ended up in A&E. Sounds very stressfull. Hills I hope person is recovering and managing well. Willow sending all the strength and well wishes to you and your DD.

Hazel I am glad little pup is back to normal self.

Ta das:
