What setting should I keep my thermostat at while I'm away for a couple of weeks?

I live in a rented flat in an old apartment building (Victorian I think). I'm going away for a couple of weeks and am wondering to what setting to put the thermostat during that time. When I moved in, it was set to 5 degrees Celsius, which I think is enough to prevent the heating pipes getting damaged by frost. But is it also enough to prevent mould forming if there is another cold snap? I have a lung condition so have to be extra careful.

I'm going to properly air out the flat and reheat it to about 19 degrees just before I leave, but then want to reduce the temperature on the thermostat - too expensive otherwise!

What temperature setting would you recommend?

We've just been away and left ours on 15 during the very cold spell the UK just had. It clicked in lots of times but only for about 15 minutes a time. Because of the extremely wet weather directly before our trip the humidity levels had increased so we felt that was the minimum to prevent any issues. In the past we've left it on as low as 10 when the weather was predicted to be above freezing for most of the time.

We were away for three weeks, including the cold week, and left it on 15C.

Thank you for your advice, fussy and spaniel - I've left it at 15 too 🙂

I think I'd either put it at 10 degrees 24/7 or I'd just leave it at 13 for two hours as mine is already set to.
