Do you hang washing out in winter?

Just wondering- I’m in London and it’s cold but sunny today. Any point in hanging the washing out- will some of the humidity dispel or will it just cling to the clothes? It would be e nice to get that fresh smell. Thanks for any advice.

Yes. I also look at how dry the patio is.

Nope , I’m strictly a summer hanger . I never hang it out unless it’s 99% likely to dry .

Same! I won’t risk the effort of putting it out if there’s a chance it won’t be dry.

Yes. But I check humidity levels in advance on the met office site. I tend to only wash on days with less than 80%. Was a great drying day here, mild, sunny, breezy. I use clothes props to catch as much breeze as possible and in winter use the lines along the side of the house to catch the sun. Wash early, with max spin and jobs a good'un.

Always have done for over 40 years! Got some out atm blowing in the breeze.

It smells lovely and fresh and I believe I've read it helps kill bacteria

Yep if it’s windy and dry it will dry, does not really matter how cold it is.
always do a double spin,

Even when washing comes in damp I find that it dries much faster if it's been left outside. I used to dry everything indoors and in winter it would take 2-3 days until clothing was dry. Brought in from outside, it takes half a day.

Eatentoomanyroses · 15/01/2023 19:55

No. It rains most days here. I haven’t got time for that.

This is why I hang outside. I hang most things on hangers as the creases drop out of them then hang them up on on my drying rail on the hangers on my utility room. It takes about 4 hours to totally dry inside.

Managed to hang a load out today. When I brought it in, it had started to freeze!! Practically dry though!

I've just downloaded it!

Definitely an app for everything!

Me too!

YourWinter · 16/01/2023 21:42

I check the forecast and do my washing when there will be at least a few hours without rain so it can hang outside. It might then need hanging indoors overnight but I wouldn’t NOT hang it outside.

I have a long washing line, not a rotary.

Has anyone mentioned spider willies yet? 😉

OhPeggySue · 18/01/2023 11:06

Mine is out now and it's freezing cold and frosty but the sun is out, so it'll get a bit of the damp out.
