How to clean this out of washing machine?

TLDR: how to clean hair like fibres out of washing machine? They seem to be trapped in the guts, not in the drum.

I washed a winter hat that my dd had worn loads. It looks knitted on the outside and fleecy on the inside and she bought it in the Eden project. It said wash at 30 degrees so I washed it on the shortest super quick 30 degree, tiny bit of mild detergent, on its own. Anyway - it got wrecked. So many hairy fibres (an inch long let’s say) came off and after doing two drum clean washes, washing some crappy old towels to sort of grab the fibres out and doing another two empty hot washes, the machine is still depositing these nasty fibres on stuff. Just washed some black items and they are all covered in these hairy fibres from the “eco” hat (which needs to be binned so not very eco).

any idea how to properly clean the machine? Which I’ve only had for 3 weeks.

This isn't a solution, but to save your washing, could you throw in a couple of those sticky things to grab the fibres? I use them for pet hair and they do come.out with pet hair stuck to them.

Fur catcher

There's cheaper ones available too

White vinegar.

When I do my pet bed washes I use white vinegar in an empty washer afterwards and it has worked so far.

Clean the filter? That's where the hairy bits will be trapped, then spat out again in subsequent washes🙂

Try a good squirt of dishwasher rinse aid in the dispenser. Put it in the main wash and the fabric softener compartments.

Also, wipe the rubber door seal after each wash to remove every trace. There can only be a finite number of fibres in the machine so the problem can't go on forever.
